Class Procedures and Reminders
Project Stack. If you turned in something before 3PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and today I'll keep working on the Sunday afternoon assignments. As always, you can check the stack anytime to make sure I received your project.
Blogger spellcheck. Some of you may have noticed that the spellcheck button disappeared from Blogger, and yesterday there was an official announcement from Google: they removed the spellcheck because they assume people are using the spellcheck feature in their browser (and Google Sites never had a spellcheck for just that reason). So, if you have not turned on the spellcheck feature in your browser, now is a great time to do that as part of a browser tune-up; it's even a Tech Tip! Here are the browser tips.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Project Stream. In addition to sharing things from the blog stream, I'll also be sharing some projects too, especially for design ideas you might want to use for your own website. So, for example, take a look at the beautiful layout that Antonieta used for her introduction to Venezuelan Myths. It looks great, and the information is so useful when paired with images like this too!
India Video. Yama appears in this Epified video with his twin sister Yami: The Greatest Twins.
H.E.A.R.T.. This time of the semester can be pretty stressful, so here is some advice from Grant Snider: Never stop hoping!
Mindset Cats. And the mindset cat urges you to be patient: It takes work to build a masterpiece.
Writing Video. I know there are some fans of comic books out there, so I wanted to share this video: How Comic Books Can Make Kids (and Adults) Smarter.
Event on Campus. Hopefully there will be a Star Party tonight at 7PM on the roof of the Lin Hall observatory, but they've had a run of bad luck with the weather, so check the website first: Observatory.ou.edu.
February 19: Ohíyesa. Today is the birthday of Charles Eastman, known also by his Dakota name, Ohíyesa; he was born in 1858. Eastman was the first Native American to receive a medical degree, and in his work as a doctor he treated the victims of the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890; You can find out more about Eastman at Wikipedia; this photograph shows Eastman in 1897:
He wrote many books, including Wigwam Evenings, a collection of Sioux folktales, which he wrote together with his wife, Elaine Eastman; more of Eastman's books online here.
