HAPPY FRIDAY! Today is Friday of Week 8. Here is a link to Week 8, and also a link to the Week 9 for those of you who are working ahead. I hope the Review Week has been a productive experience so far, and if you have time for extra credit this week, you can find that here: Week 8 extra credit.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned something in before 8PM on Sunday, you should have gotten comments back from me by now, and I'll get through as much of the stack as I can today; you can always check the stack to make sure I received your project. Anything left in the stack at the end of the day today will be at the top of the stack for Monday.

Week 11: Election Day holiday. Some of you noticed the Week 11 Tuesday Reading item in Canvas when you were checking your progress this week: that's the Election Day holiday item which I marked for everyone automatically. You can read more about that here in this previous announcement.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. People have been sharing fun stuff during the review week, and who can resist Taeam's adorable cats... so cute!

And from Bizzell's TikTok (yes, Bizzell has a TikTok), it's a Haunted Bizzell video! Midterm stress isn’t the only thing haunting the stacks. Here's a screenshot; click for the video.

Twitter stream. I was excited to see this wonderful tweet from Public Domain Review about the instruments of the world: I have a kalimba that looks just like the one in this illustration! Learn more about the world's instruments in the Harmonic Cabinet of 1722.

Yes, they really are government gifs... from the Smithsonian!

Also from the Smithsonian: art puzzles for Fall! Digital Jigsaw Puzzles: Fall Edition.

And a video from Twitter too:

Storybook. Also from India, tales of the beautiful apsaras: Drama with the Apsaras.

100-Word Stories. Plus a tiny story from India: The Buddha and the Mantra.

And some typo humor from Tom Gauld.

Finally, a beautiful video to ponder at the end of the week, with words from Alan Watts:

October 16: Oscar Wilde. Today marks the birthday in the year 1854 of the great Irish writer, Oscar Wilde. You can read more about Oscar Wilde's life and career as a writer in this Wikipedia article. My favorite works by Oscar Wilde are his fairy tales, which you can read online. The image below is an illustration by Jessie King for Wilde's fairy tale entitled The Fisherman and His Soul:

And here is an animated version of his story The Selfish Giant. This was one of my favorite films when I was little!

Check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day, or click here for past announcements.
