Thursday, November 12

Today is Thursday of Week 12. Here is a link to Week 12 and also Week 13 for anybody working ahead (always a good strategy!).

Class Procedures and Reminders

Story Lab: Microfictions. (repeat announcement) This week is a Story Lab week, and if you haven't tried a microfiction option, I hope you will consider those Lab options. Maybe you will write something you want to contribute to the class anthology; I've seen so many great microfiction stories go by in people's blogs, and I'm sure we could make a good book together! So you can use the Story Lab this week if you want to learn about microfictions or maybe try writing some of your own. Here's more about the class anthology: contribute your stories now if you want! (My goal is to put the book together during Weeks 14 and 15 so that it will be ready for the end of the semester.)

Project Stack. If you turned in a project before 6PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I will keep working on the Sunday assignments today; I should be able to read and reply to all the Sunday items today. Meanwhile, as always you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. Caroline is reading a book by Devdutt Pattanaik for the Indian Epics class; Pattanaik is one of my favorite authors, and he does his own illustrations. Here's his drawing of Garuda, and you can read more at Caroline's blog:  Garuda-asana.

Twitter stream. An important message from Dr. Bratzler:

An ancient Indian myth showed up here in the ACK Twitter stream: The Genderfluid Deity.

A very cool event in Australia today... and it's an event that can be celebrated anywhere anytime: read!

And Grant Snider knows all about reading and being stuck in a book:

Storybook. For those of you reading about King Arthur in Myth-Folklore right now, here's an Arthurian Storybook: The Crown and the Sword.

And an Arthurian video from Crash Course: Galahad, Perceval, and the Holy Grail.

100-Word Stories. And a story about the honor of a Muslim knight: Ali and the Knight.

And something lovely from Molly Hahn at Buddha Doodles today:

November 12: Bahaullah. Today marks the birthday in the year 1817 of the great religious leader named Bahaullah ("Glory of God") who founded the Bahai faith. The life of Bahaullah is filled with many dramatic events, as you can read in this Wikipedia article; below is a photo of Bahaullah from 1868:

And a short video about Bahaullah:
