Thursday, November 5

Today is Thursday of Week 11... and that means it will be a Storytelling day for a lot of you. Here is a link to Week 11, and you can find links to all the weeks at the class calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned in your project before 7PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me, and today I should be able to finish the Sunday items and then I'll start in on the projects turned in on Monday. As always you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

My OU news. Some of you know I've been at OU for a long time (since 1999, which is maybe before some of you were even born)... and yesterday I turned in my resignation; this is going to be my last year at OU, so Spring semester will be my last semester. I'm excited about a new project for Spring (I'm preparing some new books to use in Indian Epics)... and I also wanted to say THANK YOU to everybody for making this semester a great experience. :-)

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. The Check-in Padlet is anonymous, so I don't know who shared this lovely Maya Angelou quote, but I wanted to include it here in the announcements:

Twitter stream. XKCD is always brilliant, and today's cartoon has a folklore theme! Click here for larger version. What is the bear's true name?

I've shared articles about museums and looted artifacts, and here's a new article in the OUDaily about the FJJMA: Holocaust survivor sues OU to keep painting stolen by Nazis in France.

And a beautiful video from the FJJMA too!

Storybook. Plus here's a lovely Storybook with a plant theme: When Trees Talk.

100-Word Stories. Here is a story about the Buddha's past life as a bird (a jataka tale): The Birds in the Tree.

With a heartwarming graphic from Molly Hahn at Buddha Doodles:

And something lovely from Grant Snider: Window Watching (larger view)

And something from the genius Tom Gauld (larger view)... and, yes, Morrigan really is a war goddess. :-)

November 5: Guy Fawkes Night. This is Bonfire Night, the night of the so-called Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The holiday is named after Guy Fawkes, a Catholic, who was involved in a plot to blow up the House of Parliament in England. The plot was discovered, and Guy Fawkes, along with the other conspirators, was condemned to death. Find out more at Wikipedia; this Gunpowder Plot Galop is from 1856.

I'm a fan of Epic Rap Battles, and here's one of Che versus Guy:

Check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day, or click here for past announcements.
