Tuesday, February 16

Today is Tuesday of Week 4. Because of the dangerous weather, campus is closed and classes are canceled today. However, I know some of you will be doing work for the week as usual, and maybe even using this time to work ahead, so here is a link to Week 4, starting with the reading as usual: another week of Biblical/Classical stories in the Myth-Folklore class, and another week of Ramayana in the Indian Epics class. I hope you will enjoy the reading!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Break Week. If you haven't read the information about break weeks this semester, please do that now: Week 5 and Week 10 Breaks. You have two weeks you can take off ANY TIME... and since some people might need to take this week off because of snowstorm woes, I've put the Week 5 points into the Gradebook already. So, that's why you have a 30-point bump in Canvas all of a sudden. I'll do the same thing again in Week 10. You can decide if/when you want to take time off, or if you just want to finish the class two weeks early. I know that is a little confusing, so read through the information there, and if you have any questions, let me know. For those of you who need to take off for part or all of Week 4 because of the weather, you can do that!

Project Stack. I'm at work as usual (power is on, yay!), and on Monday I read and replied to all the projects turned in on before noon on Saturday. Today I'll keep working my way through the Saturday items. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

Blog Comments. Each week I update the story randomizer to remove the stories that got two or more comments. With the power of random, every story will eventually get two comments (or more), but it sometimes takes a few weeks for the randomizer to spread the comments all around. So, if you haven't gotten comments on a story yet, be patient: comments will be coming!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

The following are some snow-inspired items that people have shared at the Padlet. There was so much good stuff; these are just a few weather-inspired items, and I'll be back with the regular announcements content on Wednesday.

Finally, some thoughts on when the snow gets to be too much...

February 16: Vasant Panchami. Today marks the 2021 celebration of the holiday of Vasant Panchami in honor of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, art, and music. You can find out more about the holiday at Wikipedia, and the image below shows the goddess Saraswati. There will be lots of Saraswati images to see if you check the #VasantPanchami hashtag at Twitter today!

Here is a video about the Vasant Panchami holiday:
