Monday, April 19

Today is Monday of Week 13. No kidding: Week 13 already! Here is a link to Week 13 and also Week 12 for those of you who are using the grace period this morning. You can find Weeks 14 and 15 on the class calendar.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your project. My goal today is to reply to all the projects that were turned in before the weekend, and hopefully I can start in on the projects people turned in on Saturday also.

Week 13-14-15. With just three weeks left in the semester, I would urge everybody to have a plan in place for finishing up, making sure to get to your goal (410 A, 360 B, 320 C) by the end of Week 15. Hopefully you can finish up even sooner so that you can have time off in this class to prepare for your final exams in other classes. More about finishing the class here, and if you have any questions about that, let me know!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. I'm excited to see all the different microfictions people are writing; Landon did one about a new kind of Disney World hero! The Battle of a Lifetime.

Twitter stream. For those of you who are into games, here's a game artifact from the Roman Empire:

And here's a hero cartoon from the wonderful Liniers: a dragon-slaying hero! (larger view) I'm a dragon-slayer. ~ I've never seen a dragon. ~ I'm that good!

And a Shiva statue from South Africa, via a wonderful Indian art Twitter account:

Here's a beautiful Maitreya Buddha:

And here's a video about the Maitreya Buddha featuring the Dalai Lama:

From Atlas Obscura, the surprising origin of the name California: California Is Named for a Griffin-Riding Black Warrior Queen.

And a reminder that order really can emerge out of chaos... you just need some good vibrations:

April 19: Oklahoma City Bombing. Today is the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing. You can read more about that terrible event at Wikipedia. The image below shows the memorial:

And here is a video about the Survivor Tree, which is a beautiful testimony to life that goes on:
