Tuesday, April 10

Today is Tuesday of Week 12, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top (and like I explained in yesterday's announcements, I've adjusted the Canvas menu too). I hope you will enjoy this week's reading! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tip: Try a new reading strategy. As the end of the semester gets more and more hectic, you may find it hard to focus while you read. One good way to focus (or re-focus) is to choose a new notetaking strategy. Practicing a new strategy, by the sheer force of newness, might help you pay more attention to the reading.

Project Stack. If you turned in your assignment before noon on Saturday, you should have comments back from me, and I'll finish the Saturday assignments and move on to Sunday today. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. There were lots of great Wikipedia Trails posts this weekend, like this one from Jillian: Lakshmi to Simeon Stylites. I was excited when I saw Simeon Stylites because visiting the monastery of Saint Simeon in Syria is one of my favorite travel memories (that location has since been bombed in the war). Now, thanks to Jillian, I see how you can get from Lakshmi to Saint Simeon!

Myth Item. Those of you in Myth-Folklore will recognize many of these Fairy Tale Composers and Collectors.

India Video: Some of you in Indian Epics are reading Noor Inayat's jataka tales, and in addition to being a writer, she was an Allied war hero. Here is the trailer for a recent film made about her service as an SOE agent and her death in the war: Enemy of the Reich: The Noor Inayat Khan Story, and the image below shows a monument to her in London.

Myth Book Online: Today's free book is by Oscar Wilde: The Happy Prince and Other Tales; yes, Oscar Wilde really did write fairy tales! See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents.

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is about King Arthur: Arthur himself had but his time. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Writing: Here's a wise observation about writing and revision.

Reading: And here's another cartoon from Grant Snider: My Bookshelf.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat starts with a question: How do I do it? Find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: Here's another video from the Sprouts channel: Learning with Passion and Enthusiasm.

Event on Campus: Make your own coffee body scrub... and eat delicious desserts at Scrubs and Sweets, 6PM in Beaird Lounge (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 10: Library Workers. It's National Library Week this week, and you can find out more by following #NationalLibraryWeek at Twitter. As part of that week-long celebration, April 10 is National Library Workers' Day, and I want to extend a big thank-you to Cody Taylor and Jen Waller in the OU Libraries who are helping faculty at OU create textbook alternatives. If you've read any of the comic books or graphic novels for Indian Epics, you have Cody in particular to thank for that!
