Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tip: Use a time management matrix. It's simple, and effective: what is really urgent? what is really important? This article has a great overview of how this fits into an overall success strategy: Revisiting the Habits of Highly Effective People.

Project Stack. If you turned in something by 3PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now. While you are waiting on comments back from me, you can check the stack to make sure I received your Project email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I always like seeing posts where people create graphics of their personal mottos, and here is one from Baylie: "After darkness, light," a motto inspired by the Biblical book of Job.

India Item. The story of the Mahabharata is famous not just in India; there is also a strong Mahabharata storytelling tradition in Indonesia, as you can see in this beautiful cloth painting by Balinese artist Wayan Ketig: Bima Swarga, which depicts a story about the hero Bhima.

Myth Video: Here is another one of Amy Burvall's mash-ups: Beowulf ("99 Luftballons" by Nena). Find out more at Amy's YouTube channel.

India Comic Book: Today's comic book is Saraswati: Stories of the Goddess of Wisdom. See the Amar Chitra Katha blog for the Bizzell Reserve call number and more information.

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is famously included in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: A cat may look on a king. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Writing: This one is good for dinosaur humor AND thesaurus humor: The-Saurus.

H.E.A.R.T.: Here are some tips for what you might need to get creative in your storytelling this week: What Causes Creativity.

Growth Mindset: Curiosity leads to questions, which then leads to learning: To learn, start by asking a question. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: Here's an Aeson video that I thought you might enjoy: Stranger Aliens.

Event on Campus: You can come learn about "Advocating for Racial Justice in the International System" from Dr. Lindsay Robertson at 11:30AM in PHSC 530 (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 11: Yom Ha-Shoah. Today at sundown the Yom Ha-Shoah begins, the "Day of the Holocaust," in remembrance of the victims of the Nazis. You can read more about this memorial holiday in Wikipedia, and also learn about the term Shoah. This holiday is observed throughout the state of Israel, with special ceremonies taking place at Yad Vashem, which is the official Holocaust memorial in Israel. This image below is the Hall of Names from Yad Vashem:
