Class Procedures and Reminders
Congratulations! I hope you all got a sense of accomplishment by looking back at your work during the review week... and you should take a moment to congratulate yourselves for all the new things you have explored in this class (stories, technology, everything) and also for all the things you have shared with the class. I hope you will have a great second half of the semester!
Project Stack. I ended up with some items left in the stack on Friday, so those will be at the top of the stack on Monday when I start working through the assignments in the order they came in. You can check the stack to make sure I received your email.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Project Stream. I thought this was such a fun meme from Chase's blog last week: Comments and Feedback. And yes, your feedback is determining the future of the red late labels in the Gradebook: no more red labels! I'll be sharing more info about that tomorrow and on Monday the labels should be gone. :-)
Free Book Online. Today's free book is The King of the Snakes and other Folklore Stories from Uganda by Rosetta Baskerville.
Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is Indian Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs.
India Video. And here's a video from Epified about the goddess: Ma - The Mother Goddess.
Myth Video. This is one of the newest Crash Course myth videos: Witches and Hags.
Myth Item. This is a wonderful proverb from Liberia: An untouched drum does not speak. Let your drum speak!
Writing. Here is a similar thought from the great writer Octavia Butler.
And some advice for the second half of the semester: write something good.
Growth Mindset Cats. This cat is ready to grow: The higher you climb, the more you can see.
It doesn't work for everybody, but this Pomodoro Technique can help you make good use of your study time.
Event on Campus. OU United World College is hosting a cultural night centered on climate change at 6:30PM in Meacham (details).
March 9: Barbie. On this day in 1959, the "Barbie" doll was born, so that makes her sixty years old... but I don't think you are going to find any Barbie dolls who look their age. You can find out more about the doll's history at the History Channel, and of course Wikipedia has a long article about this American toy icon. Wikipedia is also the source of this photo of the first Barbie:
