Friday, March 8

HAPPY FRIDAY! Today is Friday of Week 8. Here is a link to this week's assignments and also Week 9 if you are ready for some reading and storytelling again.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Look back on Friday. Friday is a great day for looking back at how the past week went, while also making plans for the weekend. You can use the Famous Last Words extra credit option to write up your thoughts, along with any other extra credit options that grabs your attention.

Project Stack. I hope to get through all of the Week 7 assignments in the stack today, and whatever is left in the stack at the the day will be at the top of the stack for Monday. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. One of the Tech Tips is to add a favicon to your blog; Jack found a really cool one to use at his blog: Favicon (there's that Tech Tip if you want to use one at your blog). And for something else from Jack, see the Quiz Bowl event below.

Free Book Online. Today's free book is a complete ... complete ... English translation of the Mahabharata by Kisari Mohan Ganguli; the printed version of this translation takes up an entire half-bookshelf in my bookcase!

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is The Orange Fairy Book by Andrew Lang.

Featured Storybook. Here's a wonderful Greek mythology project from last year: A Spacious Kingdom. Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto are gods, and planets... and they are also brothers. They took an interest in earth affairs during ancient times, and they are interested in what's happening on earth now too.

Myth Video. I thought you might enjoy this Brer Rabbit story from storyteller Diane Ferlatte performing at the Kennedy Center:

Writing. I'm not a fan of Grammarly software, but they do share some fun memes at their blog like this apostrophe humor.

India Video. Here's an Epified video about Mythological Twins.

India Item. And here's another one of those Amar Chitra Katha fact sheets: Agni.

Plus some thoughts about the Power of I Don't Know.

Growth Mindset Cats. This cat is on a quest for knowledge: Deeper learning calls for creativity of thought.

And here are some thoughts about learning and the brain: Understanding Creativity with David Eagleman.

Event on Campus. Today is the last day to register as an individual or as a team for the upcoming CAC College Bowl! More information at their website: College Bowl 2019. (You can find out more from Jack in Indian Epics.)

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

March 8: Michael Hart. Today marks the birthday in 1947 of Michael Hart, the founder of Project Gutenberg and one of my online heroes! Sadly, Michael Hart died in 2011, but his legacy lives on in the amazing Project Gutenberg. You can read more about his life and achievements at Wikipedia, and the image below is from his obituary in The Economist.
