Saturday, November 2

Today is Saturday of Week 11. Here is a link to Week 11 and if you are ready to start Week 12, here's that link: Week 12. Working ahead is a great strategy for the end of the semester!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Finishing up the class. There are now three people who have finished up the class already, which is great to see, and I am guessing there might be one or two more this weekend. If your goal is to finish the class early, do some extra credit and/or work ahead! More information about that here: Progress Chart.

Project Stack. I got through all the Week 10 assignments in the stack, and the Week 11 and Week 12 assignments that were still left in the stack on Friday will be at the top of the stack on Monday. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. I'll update it periodically this weekend.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I thought this was such an interesting take on growth mindset from Abby's blog: A Conversation among Engineers. This is a graph that she made for effort and growth: it's the studying reward curve!

Twitter Stream. Of course there was lots of fun stuff in the Twitter stream yesterday from Halloween; I really like this flash mob at the Regina airport by elementary school students from Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada:

Indian Epics Today. The character today is the goddess Ganga, who descended to earth in response to the prayers of Bhagiratha and became the river Ganges. Find out more about Ganga.

India Video. Here's an Epified video about the goddess Ganga:

Story of the Day. From rivers... to the ocean. This is a Brer Rabbit story that explains the origin of the ocean; it has to do with a quarrel between Brer Rabbit and Brer Lion: The Origin of the Ocean.

Myth-Folklore Video. Hera sees a therapist... and yes, that's Uma Thurman as Hera! The Mundane Goddess.

H.E.A.R.T.. As you relax this weekend, think about the technological metaphors: The Joy of Tech-Meditation.

HEART Video. Here is Paul Zak on the neurobiology of storytelling: Future of Storytelling.

Event on Campus. It's the ASEAN - Association of Southeast Asian Nations Food Fair tonight in the Couch B Storm Shelter, 5PM-7PM (details).

November 2: All Souls Day. After the holiday of All Saints on November 1 comes the holiday of All Souls on November 2. In many Catholic countries, the two days — November 1 and November 2 — are celebrated together as the Day (or Days) of the Dead, Día de los Muertos in Spanish. Learn more in this video from Google (there are English subtitles you can turn on):
