Class Procedures and Reminders
Last-minute assignments. I know the end of the semester gets really hectic, so I just wanted to explain about last-minute assignments. There's always a grace period, but if the grace period is not enough, then turn in the assignment for the following week. For example, you should turn in your Week 11 Project today, Sunday. If something comes up unexpectedly, there's a grace period Monday morning. If that's not enough, turn it in for Week 12 instead of Week 11. All points go into the same total, and it's not a big deal to miss an assignment. Just make sure your assignment is done when you turn it in (that's what the checklist is for); if you run out of time, there's always next week!
Project Stack. I'll try to update the stack periodically today, so you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. On Monday, I'll start replying to the assignment in the order turned in, starting with the assignments that were turned in last week.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. This is not from the blogs; instead, it is a wonderful graphic that Gracie created for her Storybook about her dog, Stella, who is traveling the world... including a trip to China: Stella's Adventures. Look: there she is!
Twitter Stream. NaNoWriMo is underway (National Novel-Writing Month), so I wanted to share something from their Twitter stream. Is anybody else doing NaNoWriMo? Let me know if you are; I started mine on Saturday... and I'm dedicating my daylight savings hour to NaNoWriMo today. :-)
And for a different way to tell the gods' stories, try Epic Rap Battle! (Be warned, this one is NSFW.)
Proverbs. And here's a proverb from the Roman poet Ovid: If Jupiter hurled his thunderbolt as often as men sinned, he would soon be out of thunderbolts.
Story of the Day. Today's story is a Cherokee legend about a stick-ball game, and it explains how the flying squirrel got his leather wings: The Ball Game of the Birds and Animals.
Indian Epics Today. Today's character is Vishvamitra, the wise man (rishi) who becomes Rama's teacher. More about Vishvamitra. Here you see him urging Rama and his brother to fight the rakshasi named Thataka.
Writing. And for those of you who might be writing a Storybook story today, here's some writing advice from Gary Provost:
Writing Video. This video is useful to ponder if you find yourself struggling with the maximum word count when you write a story: The power of creative constraints.
Event on Campus. Today is the final performance of The Wolves at 3PM in the Weitzenhoffer Theatre on Elm (details).
November 3: Daylight Savings. Daylight Saving Time ended at 2AM this morning: spring forward, fall back. Enjoy your extra hour! And if you have a couple minutes to spare, enjoy the trailer: Daylight Saving. :-)
