HAPPY FRIDAY and HELLO, WEEKEND! Here is a link to Week 4 and also a link to Week 5 if you are ready to get a head start on next week now.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Extra credit Mindest survey. Cat Jackson, a graduate student here at OU, is conducting a survey about student self-confidence and online education, and that theme of self-confidence fits in perfectly with the growth mindset extra credit option. So, if you are interested in doing some extra credit, you could help out this graduate student by completing here survey; details here. Plus, you might even win an Amazon gift card!

Project Stack. I've replied to all the assignments turned in on Sunday, and today I'll be working on the projects turned in on Monday and later during the week. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. There are some websites coming online too, and I'll be updating this slideshow with the new websites today and then next week: Myth-Folklore and Indian Epics. It's exciting to see the projects coming together!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Indian Epics. This is a legend about Hanuman and the creation of the Ebony Tree:

Mindset Cats. The mindset cat knows that growth requires hard work.

Mindset Video. And here's a video to use in thinking about work: What makes us feel good about our work? with Dan Ariely.

Event near Campus. Join the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies for a lecture at 6:15PM tonight at the Norman Public Library West (map); Dr. Jane Wickersham will be talking about trials by combat, using stories from Sir Lancelot and Game of Thrones: From Combat to Torture: Pain and Proof in the Middle Ages (details).

February 7: Charles Dickens. Today is the birthday of the novelist Charles Dickens in 1812; you can read more about his life and career at Wikipedia. Do you have a favorite Dickens novel? My favorite is Hard Times. Here is a lovely painting by Robert William Buss entitled Dickens' Dream:

Here is a free audiobook of Hard Times.
