Thursday, April 16

Today is Thursday of Week 13. Here is a link to Week 13 and also to Week 14 if you're working ahead, plus Week 12 if you're using that grace period to finish up any of those assignments. You can choose whatever combination of activities you want as you finish up the class, and if you have questions about that, just let me know!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Storytelling. Week 13 is a storytelling week, which means that for many of you today is storytelling day... and for at least some of you this may be your last story for the semester: I hope you will feel inspired and have fun! (In Weeks 14 and 15, there's the Story Lab or the story option for both of those weeks.)

Project Stack. If you turned in your project before 9PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today. You can always check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Here's a Tech Tip blog post from Maria, where she explains how she got the nifty fonts and decorations to use in her Google Site pages: Cute Letters.

Twitter Stream. This is such a cool item via Goodreads: a map of the United States with a book set in each state. Oklahoma is represented by... The Outsiders (larger view of the map).

And for a Covid-related item, here's someone who's re-imagined the Council of Elrond... via Zoom!

Words. This is a word from mythology for today: it's the name of the day, Thursday, which is Thor's-Day, from the name of the Norse god Thor.

Indian Epics Today. The character today is the wind god, Vayu, father of the Pandava hero Bhima (my favorite of the Pandavas), and also the father of Hanuman. More about Vayu. This Epified video is about the meeting of the two sons of Vayu as told in the Mahabharata:

H.E.A.R.T.. And if the semester is stressing you out right now, here is a way to help sort your tasks: Importance and Urgency.

Plus some advice from Grant Snider: Never stop hoping!

Writing Video. This one is for any comic book fans out there: How Comic Books Can Make Kids (and Adults) Smarter.

April 16: Passover. This evening marks the end of the Passover holiday this year which started on the evening of April 8. You can read more about Passover at Wikipedia, and I wanted to share this film by Nina Paley on the occasion: Seder Masochism; some of you in the Indian Epics class will recognize her style from her other feature-length film, Sita Sings the Blues.
