Wednesday, April 15

Today is Wednesday of Week 13. Here is a link to Week 13, plus Week 14 if you are working ahead and/or mixing-and-matching as you finish up the class, plus Week 12 (grace period!)  — and yes, any combination of assignments you want to use to finish the class is good!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Stay in touch! As we get near the end of this completely unexpected semester, make sure to stay in touch if you have any questions or concerns about finishing up. There are two more weekends left in the class, with everything wrapping up on Friday of Week 15, May 1. If you think that is going to be a problem for you for any reason, the sooner you can get in touch with me about that, the easier it will be to find a good solution; just let me know.

Project Stack. If you turned in a project before 3PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I got your project.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. From Cece's blog post, I learned about something really cool I had never heard of before: custom paint-by-number! She ordered a paint-by-number kit using a photo of her lovely dog: Week 12 Famous Last Words.

Twitter Stream. The writer Chitra Divakaruni shared this hilarious cartoon... especially pertinent for people stuck at home together during #StayHomeSaveLives.

And for a Covid-related item, here's something from Myriad Gardens as reported in the Daily.

Myth-Folklore Video. For your viewing pleasure, here's a Crash Course on... Monsters!

Myth-Folklore. More monsters! Here's a cool map of Lake Monsters of America... including the giant octopus that is supposed to live in Lake Thunderbird right in Oklahoma:

Indian Epics Today. Today's character is Surya, the Sun-God, who is also the divine father of the Mahabharata hero Karna. More about Surya, and here's an Epified video about the Sun Temple at Konark:

India Video. This is another Epified video to ponder now that you're acquainted with the Mahabharata: Mahabharata meets Game of Thrones.

H.E.A.R.T.. And speaking of Game of Thrones, here are some thoughts about books and reading from Tyrion Lannister:

Writing Video. Plus one more video; this one is about my favorite punctuation mark, The Semicolon.

April 15:  da Vinci. Today marks the birthday in the year 1452 of the remarkable Leonardo da Vinci, who was a genius in math, science and engineering, as well as being a famous artist. You can read about his remarkable life and career in Wikipedia. You probably know his "Vitruvian Man," so here's a TED video about that, and Vitruvian Man also has a Wikipedia article of its own!
