Monday, April 26

Today is Monday of Week 14. I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Here is a link to Week 14, plus a link to Week 13 if you are using the grace period this morning... and a link to Week 15 if you are ready to use any of those assignments to finish up.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Last week of class. Yes, this is it: Week 14 is the last full week of class, although there is also a Week 15 with a complete range of assignments too, but Week 15 runs just through Friday, May 7 at noon. So, make sure you make good use of this week and have a plan in place for finishing up.

Project Stack. As usual, the stack is big on Monday, and I'll be working through the projects in the order turned in. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. All kinds of good microfiction happening in people's blogs; here's one from Isha about a would-be trickster wolf: The Heart of a Wolf.

Twitter stream. From Scroll.in, something about the Buddhist jatakas (which were a reading option for both classes; Isha'a microfiction above is inspired by a jataka story): The Burmese harp and the tales of the Buddha’s previous lives.

From the Library of Congress, a poem by Joe Dale Tate Nevaquaya (Comanche/Yuchi)... yes, recorded in Norman! Here he read his poem: In the Field.

And here are some items from the first week of announcements, back again just for fun:

Some thoughts to inspire you from the writer Neil Gaiman about the power of imagination:

Power of imagination is what brings us Coffee-Superhero (from Nick Seluk):

And, yes, memes are about imagination too. Are LOLCats and Internet Memes Art? (no surprise: I think the answer is YES!)

For some musical encouragement, here's Shakira: Try Everything.

April 26: Jet Li. Today is the birthday of Jet Li, a Chinese martial arts master and film star, who was born in 1963. Happy Birthday, Jet Li! You can read more about Jet Li's life and career in this Wikipedia article. Jet Li has made some wonderful movies with mythological and legendary themes. For children and adults alike, there is The Forbidden Kingdom, in which he plays the Monkey King (and the Silent Monk), with Jackie Chan as his costar.

Check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day, or click here for past announcements.
