Tuesday, December 8

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 15, and I've re-arranged the Declarations area in D2L so the final week of the semester is on top. Tuesday morning, until noon, is the grace period if you did not finish the Monday blog post... and all the assignments are available now: no need to wait!

Class Procedures and Reminders

CONGRATULATIONS! The votes are in, and I am pleased to announce these popular favorites among the projects this semester. Thanks to everybody for sharing your favorites, and thanks to ALL the project authors for your good work this semester! Here they are for both classes... such good stuff:
Project Stack. You can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment. I'm trying to get to things in order of urgency, so that means I will do my best to get all new stories back to everybody today, Tuesday, so that you will have time to do those revisions by Friday!

Week 15 schedule. (repeat announcement) The schedule for Week 15 is compressed because of finals. Instead of lasting over the weekend, Week 15 will end at NOON this FRIDAY, December 11. All the Week 15 assignments are available at this time, so there is no need to wait. Please finish up the class now if you can instead of waiting until Friday.

Finishing the class.  (repeat announcement) When you reach the points you need for your final grade — 410 points for an A, 360 points for a B, 320 points for a C — let me know, and I'll record the letter grade for you there in the Desire2Learn Gradebook!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Pixar’s 22 Rules of Storytelling. You've learned a lot about storytelling this semester, and now you can compare how your discoveries match up with the people at Pixar have learned:

Mythology Words in English: Today's mythology word in English is AURORA, as in "Aurora Borealis," from the name of the Roman goddess of the dawn. For details, see this blog post.

AXKZ-1029 has been put in charge of the "Human Research Program," seeking to understand these strange creatures who had once inhabited the Earth by reading their ancient myths and legends. What AXKZ learns from those stories will change him, and the Earth itself, forever.

Free Book Online: Tales of the Sun, or Folklore of Southern India by Georgiana Kingscote and Natesa Sastri. This blog post provides additional information about the stories in this book, which includes the famous folktale of "The Faithful Mongoose" (which is the Indian origin of the story known as "Beth Gellert" in Wales many centuries later).

India Comic Book: Savitri: The Perfect Wife. This blog post provides additional information about the comic book which is on Reserve in Bizzell Library. Savitri is famous for having outwitted Yama, the God of Death.
