Thursday, March 10

Today is Thursday of WEEK 8. Thursday morning until noon is the grace period if you did not finish the Week 8 blog posts from Wednesday.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned something in by 8PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me by now; if you turned something in later on Sunday or during the week, it is probably still in the stack. You can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment, and if you want comments back from me before the Break, turn your project in this morning!

Fall Enrollment. (repeat announcement) Enrollment will be starting soon for Fall classes, and the online classes fill up really quickly. If any of you would like to enroll in MLLL-3043 Myth-Folklore or MLLL-4993 Indian Epics for this Fall, please let me know before Spring Break, and I will save you a place. Likewise, if you have a friend who would like to take the class, have them contact me now; don't wait until enrollment starts. I can always save a place if someone contacts me early enough.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Google Like a Boss. My favorite is the site: search parameter so that you can do site-specific searches.

Words to Watch: Today's words to watch out for are IDLE and IDOL. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: Sky Warrior: A Tournament of Champions. The brave warrior Pyppa does battle with the flying creatures of the gods' arena as each round threatens death in a new form — Medean dragons, the bloodthirsty flying goddesses called Keres, and more. What will she do in order to survive the ordeal?

Free Book Online: The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. This blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book. There's a new version of the film coming out next month with some really amazing actors providing voices (Idris Elba!).

India Featured Book: Krishna: Retold From The Bhagawat Puran. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics which chronicles the adventures of the young Krishna.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is While the cat’s away, the mice will play (an English proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. I like proverbs that rhyme!

Today's Video: Omkaaraaya Namaha. This is another one of Ravi Shankar's recordings of Vedic chants from ancient India, and you can find out more about the words here: Shiva Shadakshara Stotram.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is determined: This may take some time and effort. Details at the blog.

Event on Campus: There will be a Town Hall for students at 4PM in the HCLC in Bizzell: "Looking Forward — OU and the Learning Management System, a Student-Driven Discussion of D2L." This will be of interest to those of you who are not graduating this year (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
