Wednesday, March 9

Today is Wednesday of WEEK 8. Wednesday morning, until noon, is the grace period if you did not finish the Week 8 blog post that was due on Tuesday (different assignments this week because it's review week).

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 8: Wednesday. Week 8 is a review week, and there are two blog post assignments due today, plus one more on Thursday. I'd urge you to finish up those review week blog posts today and then finish the rest of Week 8 so that you can get that all out of the way before Spring Break next week! For more details about this week's schedule, see the Monday announcements.

Project Stack. I've read and replied to all the assignments turned in on Saturday and on Sunday morning before noon. If you turned something in on Sunday afternoon or later, it is probably still in the stack; you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

My schedule today. I'll be out of the office for a while this morning, which means I won't be responding to emails as promptly, but I should be able to get caught up in the afternoon.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Writer's Block. I think you all know this feeling!

Indian Words in English: Today's word from India in English is GURU, which comes from Sanskrit guru, meaning a teacher. For details, see this blog post.

Featured Storybook: Paranormal: The Ayodhya Files. Right here, right now, the brothers Rama and Lakshmana are battling demons in Boston and New York, unaware that they are caught up in an ancient battle being fought all over again.

Free Book Online: Fairy Tales from All Nations by A. R. Montalba. This blog post provides additional information about the contents of the book... and it really does contain stories from all over the world!

India Featured Book: Sacred Stories: Indian Moral Stories for Children by Morris Fenris. This blog post provides additional information about this reading option for Indian Epics; this book is full of all kinds of fables and folktales, along with tales from the epic tradition, and it is available super-cheap as a Kindle book online.

Words of Wisdom: Today's proverb poster is Make hay while the sun shines (an English proverb). Details at the Proverb Lab. Of course, you may have to wait until next week for some serious sunshine in Norman!

Today's Video: Guru Brahma. To go along with the word "guru" (see above), I thought this wonderful video by Shankar Tucker would be a good one to share today!

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is ready to stretch: The bigger the challenge, the more you stretch. Details at the blog.

Event on Campus: There will be a lecture by Rémy Cordonnierat: "Art and Science in the Middle Ages: Medieval Bestiaries and the Science of Animals" at 4:30 PM in Fred Jones, Room 203 (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

Note: You can page back through the older blog posts to see any announcements you might have missed, and you can check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day.
