Week 8 assignments

Week 8: Reading and Writing

For this first Review Week assignment, look back on the reading and writing work you have been doing for class:

  • use the Reading label in your blog to look back at all your reading posts
  • use the Story label to look back at all your stories
  • go to your Project website and take a look at that with fresh eyes

Then, write up a blog post with your thoughts.

1. Looking back. Overall, how well are the reading and writing assignments working for you? What has been your favorite reading so far? Are your reading notes helping you each week with your story post? Have you discovered any new reading/research strategies? Are you happy with your class project? What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment(s) in your writing for this class?

2. Image. Pick a favorite image from a previous reading notes or story post or from your project to include in the blog post, and write a few words about why you chose this image.

3. Looking forward. Then, after you look back, look forward. Is there anything you want/need to do in order to get more out out of the reading and writing experiences in this class?

Give your post the title "Week 8 Reading and Writing," and use Week 8 as the label.

Then, after you have published the post, think about any suggestions you have for me. If you have ideas about how I can do a better job helping you with the reading and writing work in this class, you can make suggestions at the Suggestion Box and/or send me an email. (That Suggestion Box is always available in the sidebar of the announcements and in Canvas too; I am grateful for suggestions about the class anytime.)

When you are done, do the Declaration:

DECLARATION: Week 8 Reading and Writing
I have published a blog post with my thoughts about the reading and writing work in this class.
POST TITLE: I used "Week 8 Reading and Writing" as the title.
POST LABELS: I used Week 8 as the label.

Week 8: Comments and Feedback

For this post, you'll be thinking about the blog commenting and project feedback assignments:

  • use the Feedback label at your blog to review your initial thoughts
  • take a look through your blog comments to see what's there
  • read back over your own Introduction post with fresh eyes

Then, write up a blog post with your thoughts.

1. Feedback in. Overall, how would you rate the quality of the comments and feedback you are receiving from other students in the class? What kinds of comments are you finding to be the most useful?

2. Feedback out. Similarly, how would you rate the quality of the comments and feedback you are leaving for other students? Have you found some good feedback strategies? Are you getting some good ideas for your own writing as you analyze other people's writing?

3. Blog comments. Do you have a sense of getting to know people by connecting with them at their blogs? Are you happy with how your Introduction post and how your blog in general provides a space where people can get to know you?

4. Looking forward. What do you want/need to do differently to make the feedback assignments more useful for others and/or more useful for you? Do you want to make any changes to your blog? (There are some extra credit Tech Tips for that if you want to tinker and experiment!)

5. Image. Take a look through the "Feedback Cats" and "Feedback Infographics" to find one that expresses what you think is a really important aspect of the feedback process, and explain why you chose that image in particular.

Give your post the title "Week 8 Comments and Feedback," and use Week 8 as the label.

Then, after you have published the post, think about any suggestions you have for me. If you have ideas about how I can do a better job organizing the commenting and feedback assignments, you can make suggestions at the Suggestion Box and/or send me an email.

When you are done, do the Declaration:

POST LABELS: I used Week 8 as the label.

Week 8: Progress

For this post, you'll be thinking about your class progress in general:

  • use the weekly label at your blog to take a quick look through your posts week by week
  • check your total points and use the Progress Chart to see how you're doing
  • look back at "Schedule Planning" email from Week 1 and review your current schedule

Then, write up a blog post with your thoughts.

1. Looking back. Are you happy with your progress so far? Do you have a good weekly routine? What are the class assignments that you enjoy the most? Are you using any of the extra credit options?

2. Looking forward. Are there any changes you want to make for the second half of the semester? Any pitfalls you want to avoid? Something new you want to try?

3. Image. Find an image to motivate you for the big push through to the end of the semester!

Give your post the title "Week 8 Progress," and use Week 8 as the label.

Then, after you have published the post, think about any suggestions you have for me. If you have any ideas you'd like to share about the class, visit the Suggestion Box and/or send me an email.
