Tuesday, April 25

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 14, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. If you have not done any reading for this week yet, today is the day... and it's the last reading day of the semester, so have fun with that! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. Yesterday I read and replied to the assignments that were turned in before noon on Sunday, so I'll be working on the Sunday afternoon assignments today. You can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Week 14 and Week 15 Feedback. The Week 14 Project Feedback assignment is ready now, and so is the Week 15 assignment if you are working ahead to finish up early. It's all free choice so that you will be able to visit your favorite projects again before the semester is over.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Reading. The power of books: We lose ourselves in books; we find ourselves there too.

Life. Words of wisdom from Anne Lamott: Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes... including you.

GrammarCat. This cat is having an apostrophe problem: CANT v. CAN'T.

Featured Storybook. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class, with stories from India: Elephants in India!. It's bedtime stories for the baby elephants, and they listen to famous Buddhist stories about elephants like Silava and Mahilaimukha and also to the story of how the god Vishnu saved Gajendra the elephant.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Legends and Tales by Annie Besant. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. Annie Besant is best known for her books about Indian religion, and you can see an Indian connection here: the first story in the book is about the goddess Ganga.

Words of Wisdom: Today's saying is If you don't scale the mountain, you can't see the plain (a Chinese proverb). Find out more at the Proverb Lab. And if you're not at the top of the mountain yet, keep on climbing.

Video: The video for today is Jaya Shiva Omkara. Find out more about the "Omkara" syllable at Wikipedia.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is aiming high: My effort and attitude are everything. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Come enjoy "How to Shakespeare" in Bizzell today from 4PM to 7PM (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 25: Al Pacino. Today is Al Pacino's birthday: he is 77! You can read more about his amazing career at Wikipedia. I thought a fun tribute to Al Pacino would be this mash-up video which contains multiple Al Pacinos, multiple Tom Cruises, and all kinds of multiplying mayhem: Hell's Club.
