HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 3! Here is a link to the class calendar; after you finish this week's assignments, you can start in on Week 4, or maybe you will want to try some of the this week's extra credit options.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I have read and replied to the project emails from Sunday, and I should be able to get through the rest of the stack today (it's my goal every week to get through the stack by the end of the day Friday). While you are waiting on comments back from me about your assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. For the regular Week 3 blog comments, you will be reading people's stories from last week, and if you also want to read some new stories from this week, you can do the "jump in the stream" extra credit comments. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. You might remember from yesterday's announcements that it was the centenary of artist Jacob Lawrence's birth, and in yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, I found so much nice art by Lawrence; here is a painting called The School Room.

Writing. I thought this was such a cute cartoon: The Family of Writers. Even the cat and the dog are writers!

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: The Temptation of Zeus. Zeus took an endless series of lovers among the goddess, nymphs and women of the world, and in this Storybook you get to hear their side of the story, learning from Hera, Metis, Sinope and Alcmena just what it means to be the beloved of Zeus.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists by Sister Nivedita. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. I had mentioned Sister Nivedita in the announcements earlier this week, so I wanted to share this book; it is a wonderful introduction to Indian stories, and it also has beautiful artwork from the studio of Abanindranath Tagore.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Ant and the Dove. This is a feel-good fable about charity and gratitude. The illustration is by Billinghurst:

Video: The video for today is Janelle Monae and the Muppets singing The Power of Yet. It's a fun growth mindset message in music:

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat also knows the power of yet: I haven't got it...yet. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event near Campus: Jeff Provine's Norman Ghost Tour is back, and the first tour of the season is tonight! Read more at the OUDaily: Ghost tours to present Norman's paranormal past: The tours begin at 9 p.m. at the Pioneer Teacher statue, at 200 S. Jones Ave. The walk lasts an hour and will cost $10.

September 8: International Literacy Day. This year's theme is "Reading the Past, Writing the Future," and you can find out more at the United Nations website, or follow the hashtag #ILD17 at Twitter.
