Saturday, September 9

Today is Saturday of Week 3. I hope you are enjoying a nice weekend!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Weekend schedule. I don't check email as often over the weekends, but please contact me with any questions you have. If it's something urgent, I'll get back to you as soon as I'm online; if it's not urgent, I'll get back to you on Monday.

Project Stack. If you turn in something before Friday last week, you should have gotten comments back, and if you turned something in on Friday, you'll be at the top of the stack for Monday. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. I'll update the stack periodically over the weekend.

Extra Credit. Looking at other people's blogs for the commenting may give you some ideas for your own blog; you can browse the Tech Tips for blog tips and other online tools. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is something from Merriam-Webster, one of my favorite Twitter feeds: 30 Ways to Tell the Future. One of my favorites, of course, is bibliomancy, where you find the answer to your question about the future by opening a book to a random page and seeing what words your eyes first fall on.

Words from Mythology. The word for today is the name of today: SATURDAY, Saturn's Day, the day of the god Saturn.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Paranormal: The Ayodhya Files. Right here, right now, the brothers Rama and Lakshmana are battling demons in Boston and New York, unaware that they are caught up in an ancient battle being fought all over again.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Book of Saints and Heroes by Leonora Lang. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by Henry Justice Ford:

Story of the Day. Today's story is from the Indian jataka tales: The Giant Crab. A couple of elephants have to find a plan to defeat a seriously evil giant crab.

Video: The video for today is Amy Burvall's pop music mash-up: The Odyssey ("Across the Universe" by the Beatles). Find out more at Amy's HistoryTeachers YouTube channel.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is making new things this weekend. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event in Norman: It's the Cleveland County Fair this weekend! Read all about it in the OU Daily. The Perry’s Farm Petting Zoo is just one of the attractions! Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 9: Coomaraswamy. Today marks the death in 1947 of Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy, one of the first scholars to introduce classical Indian art to Western audiences. You can find out more about him at Wikipedia, and you will find one of his books at the Freebookapalooza: Vidyapati's Songs of the Love of Radha and Krishna.
