Saturday, September 16

Today is Saturday of Week 4, the first day of a well-earned weekend. Many of you will be setting up your project website this weekend, too: I hope you will have fun with that!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I replied to all the assignments turned in before Friday, and if you turned something in on Friday, you'll be at the top of the stack on Monday. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email, and I'll update the stack periodically over the weekend.

Extra Credit. There are lots of Tech Tips that you can do for extra credit. I'd highly recommend the Blogger Template Tech Tip: it's a way you can experiment with your current blog design, and it might also be helpful if you are thinking you might use a blog website for your class project. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is a Venn diagram about ikigai, and you can find out more at Wikipedia. I feel really lucky that my job is pretty well situated there at the intersection of all four dimensions: it's ikigai.

Proverb. Most of the Latin in Harry Potter is not correct Latin, but the motto of Hogwarts is very nice: Never tickle a sleeping dragon.. Draco dormiens numquam titillandus.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Rakshasa Stone Magazine: Demon Music Reviews. Read detailed reviews of all the songs on the latest albums from Ravana and the Rakshasas, Kumbhakarna, Vibhishana, and even the new album from Hidimbi's Son, a.k.a. Ghatotkacha.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Ocean of the Streams of Story by C. H. Tawney. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is an English translation of the monumental collection of stories called Katha Sarit Sagara in Sanskrit. You can find out more at Wikipedia.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Wolf in Shepherd's Clothing. You've probably heard the phrase "a wolf in sheep's clothing," but in this story, the wolf disguises himself as a shepherd.

Video: The video for today is a public service announcement from India: What Gods Wear Before They Ride. The PSA was produced by the India Head Injury Foundation.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is looking for inspiration: The creative process starts with making observations. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Bizzell Library is open from 9AM until 9PM on Saturdays; if you have not seen all the great new study spaces downstairs in the HCLC, go take a look! (details).

September 16: St. Hildegard. September 16 marks the birthday in the year 1098 of the remarkable Hildegard of Bingen, and September 17 is her feast day (she died on September 17 in 1197). Saint Hildegard was an author, a musician, and an artist; you can read more about her life and accomplishments in this Wikipedia article. In this painting Saint Hildegard depicted one of her mystical visions:
