Tuesday, September 26

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 6, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. The first reading is due today, and both the blog comment and project feedback assignments for the week are ready to go. Lots of projects are ready for readers now! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Canvas Missing labels. I've been involved in an effort to get Canvas to remove those red "missing" labels in the Gradebook that you have been seeing for the optional extra credit assignments. Late yesterday, Canvas announced that they are going to remove those labels! That may have happened already; if not, I expect that will happen soon. Details at Canvas Community website if you are interested. Yes, I am a Canvas geek; I blog there! :-)

Project Stack. I replied to the assignments turned in on Friday, and today I'll start on the Saturday assignments. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. As usual on Tuesday, I've got the new blog comments assignment and project feedback assignments ready, and there is also the extra credit commenting assignment for those of you who like exploring other people's blogs and stories. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is Cinderella Vrat Katha. This is such a cool article of interest to both the Myth-Folklore class AND to the Indian Epics class!

Reading. You might think about Tyrion Lannister when you are doing the reading this week: A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That is why I read so much.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Tracking the Werewolf. Our hero, John Abbott, is tracking the werewolf, getting closer and closer . . . until we do indeed see the werewolves through his eyes.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Talking Thrush and Other Tales from India by William Crooke and W. H. D. Rouse. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by W. H. Robinson:

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Mouse and the Frog. This is the story of a treacherous friend... a very treacherous friend! The illustration is by Paul Bransom:

Video: The video for today is another one of Amy Burvall's mash-up videos: The Mahabharata ("Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band). Find more mash-ups at Amy's YouTube channel.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cats are curious: Curiosity breeds curiosity. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: There will be a noon piano concert by Jeongwon Ham in Sandy Bell Gallery of the Fred Jones Museum (details). You can enjoy her music in this YouTube video.

September 26: European Day of Languages. You can find out more about this holiday at Wikipedia and at the EDL website. Celebrate the holiday by practicing your European language skills! I will be singing along to Italian and Polish pop music. Find a fun way to use your languages today! :-)

A blast from the Polish past with Lady Pank:

And an Italian favorite, the late, great Fabrizio de Andre:
