Today is Wednesday of WEEK 6. The second part of the reading is due today, and I hope you are getting some good ideas for a story of your own! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I've replied to all the projects turned in on Saturday, and I'll start working on the Sunday assignments today. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. It is so much fun to see the Wikipedia Trails posts that people do, and if you haven't tried that extra credit assignment, I highly recommend it. Keep an eye out for something curious or confusing or weird in the reading, and use Wikipedia to investigate! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is Tom Gauld contrasting scientific dark matter and the mythological stuff.

Words from Mythology. Today's word is CORNUCOPIA, the horn of plenty.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Post Secret Sanskrit: The Panchakanya. This collection of Post Secret stories, together with postcards, is told by the Panchakanya, the five women of the epics: Ahalya, Draupadi, Kunti, Tara, and Mandodari.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Anvar-i Suhaili, or The Lights of Canopus translated by Edward B. Eastwick. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. A lot of you will recognize the famous story of the turtle who went flying with the help of two birds:

Story of the Day. Today's story is from the Buddhist jataka tales of India: The Pious Wolf. A wolf declares that he will be fasting, but he cannot resist the sight of a tempting young goat.

Video: The video for today is another one from Epified: Mahabharata meets Game of Thrones. You might also enjoy this Times of India article: Drawing Parallels: Mahabharata and Game of Thrones.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is fearless: Because I feel safe, I can learn from my mistakes. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: It's Pizza Palooza in Bizzell this evening from 6PM to 7PM (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 27: Durga Puja. This holiday celebrates the victory of the goddess Durga over the buffalo-demon, Mahishasura. You can read more about this holiday at Wikipedia, and you can see more at live Twitter during the celebrations. For background, here's an article by Devdutt Pattanaik:
