Wednesday, October 11

Today is Wednesday of Week 8. The second review blog post is due today, and you might want to finish up the third post today too; there's no need to wait! Here is a link to the Review week assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Moving on to Week 9. When you finish up the review posts and the feedback and comments for Week 8, you might or might not be ready to do your Week 8 Project, depending on whether you have gotten an email from me about last week's project. But don't let that hold you back: you can move on to the Week 9 reading now, and then you can come back and finish your project for Week 8 when you get my comments later this week. Here's the link for Week 9.

Project Stack. I finished the Saturday assignments yesterday, so today I am starting in on the Sunday assignments. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

My schedule today. I'll be out of the office in the morning, but I should be back in the afternoon. If you have sent me a question in an email, I'll be able to send you an answer by the end of the day.

Extra Credit. If you're looking for some fun and useful extra credit, take a look at the long list of Tech Tip options: there are all kinds of tips you can experiment with there! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is one of the items I saw in the World Mental Health Day stream.

Wisdom. Here is some advice from Ralph Waldo Emerson: Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Creatures of Irish Lore. Seeking shelter from the rain, some American tourists stumble into an Irish pub where they hear first-hand stories about banshees, leprechauns, merrows, and fairies too, of course.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Myths and Tales of the Southeastern Indians by John R. Swanton. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. You will find lots of Creek stories in this book!

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Horse and the Stag, which explains how the horse gave up his freedom to become the servant of men.

Video: The video for today is from SNL... it's for all you graphic designers in the class: Papyrus. Find out more at the Wikipedia article about Papyrus.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is doing some Tech Tips for extra credit: I shape the technology; it does not shape me. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: There will be a Wednesday Night Star Party tonight; come out and watch at 8PM (for details, visit Observatory.ou.edu). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

October 11: International Day of the Girl. Today is the United Nations holiday in honor of the girls of the world; you can find out more at Wikipedia and at the UN website. In the United States, the holiday is The Day of the Girl. And here are some words of wisdom from Malala Yousafzai: I raise up my voice — not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.
