Tuesday, October 10

Today is Tuesday of Week 8, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. It's a review week, so no reading/story this week. Instead, there are some reflection posts, both for looking back and for looking ahead to the second half of the semester. You can probably do all of them today, and just keep on moving ahead with the week if you want! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I replied to the assignments from Friday last week, and I'll start working on the Saturday assignments today. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. The regular comment assignment is ready to go, and there's always the extra credit commenting! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is OU's Indigenous People's celebration as covered by the Daily. There's some Twitter video too.

Words from India. Did you know the word SHAMPOO comes from India? It does!

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Heroes Revealed: The Truth. Charon the boatman has ferried many heroes to the shores of the afterlife. So that you can learn just what it means to be a hero, Charon will take you to meet Heracles, Beowulf, King Arthur, and Cleopatra, who will each tell you the stories of their own heroic deeds.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Buddhist Birth Stories by T. W. Rhys Davids. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The image is from the Jataka sculptures at the Borobudur temple in Indonesia:

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs. You might know this famous story, but did you know it is an Aesop's fable?

Video: The video for today is from Epified: Temples in India. Find out more at Epified's YouTube channel.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is actively curious: Curiosity is not sedentary and passive. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Lisa Funnell will be giving a talk about Wonder Woman at 6PM in Nielsen Hall (details).

And Lisa is a great person to follow at Twitter! Here she is:

October 10: World Mental Health Day. You can find out more about this United Nations holiday at Wikipedia and at the World Health Organization website, and check out this nice infographic too. If you use Twitter, follow the #LetsTalk and #WorldMentalHealthDay hashtags!
