Wednesday, October 25

Today is Wednesday of Week 10. The second part of the reading is due today, and I hope you are getting some good ideas for a story you want to tell this week! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Class Procedures and Reminders

My schedule. Assuming that the airlines cooperate (which is a pretty big assumption these days, alas), I will be back home tonight, and then back at work per usual on Thursday morning. Thank you for your patience while I was sharing the joy of Aesop and Jatakas at Creighton University this week.

Project Stack. Starting tomorrow, I'll be replying to the projects in the other that they were turned in, and you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. My goal is to reply to all the Week 9 assignments before the weekend, and I will get to as many of the Week 10 assignments as I can also.

Extra Credit. If you are enjoying the reading this week, just keep on reading: you can always do an additional reading assignment for extra credit! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is a Mixtec Codex from the British Museum:

Words from Mythology. Today's word is the name of the day itself, WEDNESDAY, from the name of the Norse god Woden, also known as Odin: Happy Woden's-Day!

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Indian Epics class: Blueprints of the Hindu Gods. The gods are hard at work behind the scenes of the Ramayana, and here you can find out just why they make the choices they do.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Shri Krishna of Dwarka and Other Stories by C. A. Kincaid. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This book is one of the reading options for Indian Epics during these two Krishna weeks.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: it is the proverbial Dog in the Manger, who spitefully refuses to let others enjoy the hay in the manger, even though he does not eat hay himself.

Video: The video for today is about Native American sports mascots, but it is also about much more than that: Proud to Be. Find out more at the National Congress of American Indians.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is open to new experiences: Open the door... and explore the unknown! You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: These are the last days of the "A is for Arab" exhibit in Bizzell Library (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

October 25: Chaucer. Today marks the death of the English poet Chaucer in the year 1400. You can find out more about his life and career at Wikipedia, and some of you may be reading stories from the Canterbury Tales in Myth-Folklore later this semester!
