Class Procedures and Reminders
Project Stack. Yesterday, I finished replying to all the assignments turned in on Sunday, and today I will get through the rest of the Week 10 projects, plus as many of the Week 11 assignments as I can. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.
Finishing the class. Now that we are getting into the final weeks of the semester, you can mix-and-match to get the points you need, choosing the assignments you like best. It's good to make a plan now for how you want to finish up, and as soon as you get the points you need (410 A, 360 B, 320 C), you are done with the class. When you are done, just fill out this form to let me know... and congratulations to the people who have finished already!
Extra Credit. Friday is a great day for Famous Last Words! Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is an article about the Dance of Death. The topic for #FolkloreThursday this week was skeletons, and people shared so much great stuff!
Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Nursery Rhymes in the Digital Age. Rhymes updated for the modern age, complete with smartphones and Pokemon.
Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Camel and Jupiter. This is a story of a camel who wanted horns, but an angry Jupiter just cropped his ears instead.
Video: The video for today is one of my favorite Maati Baani videos: Funky Pawa. Find out more at the YouTube page for this song.
Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat knows all about neuroplasticity: Picture your brain forming new connections. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.
Event on Campus: It's the India Students Association Diwali night tonight at 6:30PM in the Reynolds Performing Arts Center (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.
November 3: Carracci. Today marks the birthday in 1560 of the Italian painter Annibale Carracci, who is famous for his paintings on both religious and mythological subjects, like this painting of Mercury (Hermes) and Paris; Mercury is giving the notorious Golden Apple to Paris who will judge which of the goddesses is most beautiful. You can read more about his life and career at Wikipedia.
