Saturday, November 4

Today is Saturday of Week 11. I hope you are enjoying the weekend! We're getting near the end of the semester, so maybe you can take some time today and make your plan for finishing up the class.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I finished all the Week 10 projects on Friday, and anything left in the stack on Friday will be first on my agenda on Monday. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. If you are looking for some time management strategies, try the H.E.A.R.T. extra credit option (the T is for time). Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here is a call for submissions from OU's Aster Review. You can find out more at the Aster website.

Proverb. This is a proverb from South Africa: Dawn does not come twice to wake us. You can take this as literal advice to rise at dawn, or metaphorical advice for seizing opportunity when it comes your way.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: Youkai Hunters. You can't afford to let your guard down for even a moment when you are hunting the Japanese demons known as youkai.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Ramayana: India's Immortal Tale of Adventure, Love and Wisdom by Krishna Dharma. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is a recent version of the Ramayana, available free online thanks to the generosity of the author. Those of you in Indian Epics who want to revisit the Ramayana might use this for your reading in the last weeks of the semester!

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fable: The Belly and the Members. This is the story of what happens when the hands and feet and other parts of the body go on strike to protest the greediness of the belly.

Video: The video for today is Ballet RevoluciĆ³n's Live to Inspire. Find out more at the YouTube page.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is ready to explore: Learning requires deep exploration. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: There's a Dungeons and Dragons Open Meeting and Game Night 2:30-8:00PM in Headington D125 and D127 (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 4. Kartik Purnima. Today is the festival of Kartik Purnima, which celebrates many different stories and traditions which you can read about at Wikipedia. Among other things, Purnima is considered to be the birthday of Matsya, Vishnu's fish avatar. Here you can see Matsya slaying the conch-shell demon, Shankhasura, and you can find out more about Shankhasura at Molly's Storybook in Indian Epics this semester!
