HAPPY FRIDAY! You have reached the end of Week 2! Here is a link to the class calendar. After you finish the Week 2 assignments, you can start in on Week 3 if you want; those assignments are ready to go. :-)

Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tips: Be aware of the workflow. Now after writing your story for this week, you see how each week works: you start with reading+storytelling blog posts... then you move on to your own project and commenting on other people's blogs... and then it will be time for reading+storytelling again next week. If you can keep  in mind how the assignments are interconnected, that will help the class flow more smoothly from week to week.

Famous Last Words. Since it's Friday, you might feel like doing a "Famous Last Words" post today, looking back on how the week has gone for you. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

Introductions. I should be able to reach my goal of commenting all the Introduction posts by the end of today, and I hope you all will have fun commenting on each other's Intros for this week's blog commenting assignment.

Project Stack. As people turn in their Week 2 projects, I'll add them to the stack. Then, while you are waiting on comments back from me about your project, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. There are so many different kinds of stories in the stream today, and I wanted to share this one from Jason in Myth-Folklore:Week 2 Story: The Machine and Humanity. I am a big fan of science-fiction style stories, and this blending of AI and an ancient wisdom story is a great example of how powerful that scifi style can be:

India Item. Those of you in Indian Epics will be reading the Ramayana in Week 3, so I wanted to share this beautiful coloring book, available for free online: The Picturebook Ramayana. This page shows King Janaka discovering baby Sita when plowing a field:

Myth Video: Some of you in Myth-Folklore will be reading about the Trojan War in Week 3, so I wanted to share this musical mash-up video by Amy Burvall: The Trojan War ("Tainted Love" by Soft Cell). You can find more of these mythology mash-ups at Amy's YouTube Channel.

Myth Book Online: Meanwhile, some people in Myth-Folklore might be exploring Bible stories in Week 3, so I wanted to share this free book online by Mark Twain: Extracts from Adam's Diary. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This diary-style approach is just the kind of project that would work in this class too!

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is also on the subject of Adam and Eve: Adam must have an Eve to blame for his own faults. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Writing: Here's an item from one of my all-time favorite cartoonists, Tom Gauld: Characters for an Epic Tale.

H.E.A.R.T.: And here's an item for all the gamers in class: Role-Playing.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is glad it's the end of the week: Take some time to reflect. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: And here's one of my favorite growth mindset videos: The Power of Yet: Janelle Monae and the Muppets .

Event on Campus: Today is the opening of the Space Burial installation at the FJJMA (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

January 26: Republic Day. On this day in 1950, the Indian Constitution came into force, making India officially a "Republic," and so January 26 is celebrated as "Republic Day" in India. You can read more about the holiday at Wikipedia. Each year on Indian Republic Day, heroes of the nation are celebrated. In this video from last year's Republic Day, Maati Baani celebrate the farmers of India; find out more here:
