Saturday, January 27

Today is Saturday of Week 2. I hope you are enjoying the weekend!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Success Tips: Extra credit. I hope you will have a chance to try some of the Week 2 extra credit options. Doing extra credit now, early in the semester, will give you some flexibility in this class when midterms start up in your other classes.

Finishing Week 2. If you didn't finish up the Week 2 assignments on Friday, you can do that this weekend. And Week 3 is ready to go when you are. :-)

My schedule. I'm traveling this weekend, so I might be slow to respond to emails, but if you have a question, I'll get back to you as soon as I'm back online.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I have so much fun with the memes people find/make and share, like this one from Kasey's blog. Brace yourselves: feedback is coming.

India Item. Here's another word from India in English: MANDALA.

Myth Video: Here's another one of those Crash Course Mythology videos: Pantheons of the Ancient Mediterranean.

India Comic Book: Today's comic book is Tales of Narada: Tales of Devotion and Rivalry. See the Amar Chitra Katha blog for the Bizzell Reserve call number and more information. The cosmic sage Narada is one of my favorite characters in Indian storytelling:

Proverb of the Day: Today's proverb is from Kashmir: I do not want honey, nor do I want the sting. Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Writing: Dan Piraro ("Bizarro") is one of my favorite cartoonists: Evolution of the Speech Balloon.

H.E.A.R.T.: And here's a great one from Grant Snider to ponder over the weekend: Interior Life.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is not sure what to do next... so she is going to stop for a moment and just think. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: And here's one for Saturday night: Unread Book (Uptown Funk).

Event on Campus: Today is the opening of a new exhibit at the Sam Noble Museum: Celestial Siblings: Parallel Landscapes of Earth and Mars (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

Holocaust Remembrance Day. January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, is a day in remembrance of those who died in the Nazi Holocaust. The person I hold in my special remembrance for this day is Janusz Korczak (Wikipedia), a visionary educator who organized the Jewish orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto, and who died together with the orphans at Treblinka. This image below shows the Yad Vashem Memorial for Korczak and his children:
