Class Procedures and Reminders
Success Tips: Extra Credit Anytime. Are you done with the Week 1 assignments? You can start off Week 2 by doing some extra credit now; you don't need to wait until the end of the week. So, if you want to give some of those extra credit options a try, do that now: Week 2 extra credit.
My schedule (repeat announcement). I don't check email as often on the weekends, but do send me any questions you have. If it's something urgent, I'll get back to you as soon as I get back online; if it's not urgent, I'll get back to you tomorrow morning.
Project Stack. Some of you are already turning in Week 2 project assignments, which is great! While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. I shared a "growth doge" yesterday, and today from Camryn's blog, here is an assignment doge! As you will see when you start writing your own stories, making memes is a lot like making new stories by mixing up traditional stories. You can make lots of different doge memes, just like you can tell lots of different stories about genies and magic lamps, like in the cartoon below.

India Video: And just as you can do story mash-ups, you can do music mash-ups too. Here is fun one from Vidya Vox and her friends in Mumbai: Chaiyya Chaiyya / Don't Stop. You can hear the original Chaiyya Chaiyya in the credits for Spike Lee's Inside Job. The song even has an article at Wikipedia
Proverb of the Day: Here's a proverb about the power of writing: A goose-quill is more dangerous than a lion's claw (it's like "the pen is mightier than the sword" but with animals). Find out more at the Proverb Laboratory.

Reading. Here's an item for those of you who are starting the Week 2 reading today: reading is powerful! Read more, see more.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat has been using the weekend for both working and relaxing: Study hard, and then take a break. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Video: Here's another growth mindset video that I thought you might like; this is a TED talk by Eduardo BriceƱo: How to get better at the things you care about. You can read a transcript at the TED talk site.
Event on Campus: FITPasses are on sale this week, through Monday; you can buy online (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.
