Thursday, September 20

Today is Thursday of Week 5. Here is a link to the Week 5 assignments. For a lot of you this is Storytelling Day, so I hope you will have fun with that. If you did the Lab last week, maybe you can apply something you learned last week to your story this week!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Stray Comments. Every once in a while you may notice a comment on your blog that seems like it is meant for someone else. That happens sometimes (it's easy to click on a wrong link by accident), and if you let me know, I can try to find out who the comment was meant for.

Project Stack. If you turned in your project before 6PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me, and you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. As you can see, it takes me all week to get through the stack, but if you can turned in your assignment on Saturday or earlier on Sunday, you'll get comments back sooner.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. One of the great things about a blog is that you can keep changing your design while keeping the same content; Cat has adjusted her blog column widths so she can have nice big images in her blog posts, as you can see in this screenshot: Cat's Mythology Blog. (Here are some Blogger Tech Tips.)

Featured Storybook. Some of you are reading about Isis in Myth-Folklore this week, so here is a Storybook about her: The Egyptian Goddess Isis. The goddess Isis was a devoted wife and a devoted mother, and these stories are about the heroic efforts she made in order to preserve her family.

Myth Video. Here's a video about a famous mythological space: Labyrinths.

India Video. Here's a different kind of path: Dharma - Your Path.

India Item. You may have noticed that Arti has an Indian flag favicon for her blog now (more about favicons), and the Indian flag features a Dharma Wheel in the center.

Writing. Some advice from Margaret Atwood for your writing this week; don't let perfection become your writer's block: If I waited for perfection, I would never write a word.

And here's a fun cartoon about staying positive: Yesbody.

Growth Mindset Cats. A yesbody is someone who looks for opportunity, like these growth mindset kittens:

You do have the power: the power to create.

Event on Campus. For Italy Week, it's the Nutella Challenge on the South Oval, 10AM-noon (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 20: Annie Besant. Today marks the death of Annie Besant in 1933; she was a leader in the Indian Independence Movement, and she was also a well-known Theosophist who took a great interest in the sacred texts of India, including the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. You can find out more about her life and accomplishments in Wikipedia, and I have some related links at the Indian Epics site. This photograph of Annie Besant was taken in the 1880s, and you can see a video about her below:
