Wednesday, October 3

Today is Wednesday of Week 7. Here is a link to this week's assignments. I hope you are finding some good story material you can use from the reading this week! Remember to focus your notes on what you can (re)use: reading like a writer.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 2-3-4 Stories. With the randomizer, I try to make sure every story gets at least two comments. Any stories you wrote back in Week 2, 3, or 4 should have gotten those two comments by now, but if you have a story from one of those weeks in your blog that didn't get two comments, let me know, and I'll put it back in the randomizer!

Project Stack. If you turned something in before noon on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I'll keep working on the Sunday assignments today. You can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. For those of you who are looking for an inspiring example of how to write dialogue, check out the Introduction to Raven's trickster project: wow! How to Steal Fire the Trickster Way.

Featured Storybook. I'm such a fan of science fiction stories, and here's an Indian Epics storybook in outer space: Onboard the Spaceship Pushpaka. The spaceship Pushpaka is visiting a solar system where each planet has its own special connection to one of Vishnu's avatars back in the ancient days of planet Earth.

India Video. There are lots of great videos about making rangoli designs, like this: Simple Rangoli Design with 5X1 Dots .

Myth Video. Some of you are reading Anansi stories this week in Myth-Folklore, so here's a video from the National Museum of Jamaica: Anancy and the Snake.

Myth Item. Here's a wonderful proverb from South Africa: Dawn does not come twice to wake us.

Writing. And speaking of science fiction, here's a great cartoon from Tom Gauld.

And planet Earth is a pretty big place; here's a cool infographic about that: The World as 100 People.

Growth Mindset Cats. Growth is about exploring that big world: go where there is no path.

Matt Harding has been dancing around the world for years; here's one of his videos from back in 2006: Where in the world is Matt?

Event on Campus. It's Take Back the Night tonight starting at 7PM in the South Oval Unity Garden (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

October 3: Gore Vidal. Friday, October 3, marks the birthday in the year 1925 of the American author, Gore Vidal. You can read more about Gore Vidal's life and career in this Wikipedia article. My favorite of his novels is his historical novel Julian, which is about the 4th-century emperor Julian, nicknamed "Julian the Apostate," the last of the pagan emperors of Rome:
