Tuesday, November 6

Today is Tuesday of Week 12. Here is a link to the Week 12 assignments, plus the Week 13 assignments for anyone who is working ahead. And yes, finishing up during Week 13 before Thanksgiving is totally doable... just keep on pushing ahead!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Story comments. My goal is for every story to get two or more comments, but I don't have a perfect system for making that happen. There are a few Week 9 stories in the randomizer right now, but all the stories from before Week 9 should have gotten at least two comments. If you have a story from the first half of the semester that didn't get two comments, let me know and I'll put it back into the randomizer!

Project Stack. I didn't finish the Friday assignments yet, but I will do that today, and then I'll get started on the Saturday assignments. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Here's a fun post from Megan in Myth-Folklore where she is thinking about post-graduation plans: I've been thinking.... Maybe you have some advice about baking and decorating opportunities!

Featured Storybook. Here's a wonderful project from Myth-Folklore last year: Sunlight's Reflection: A Mirror for Gods and Humans. In her time of need, the goddess Amaterasu finds a mirror, but it is not just an ordinary mirror...

As the semester winds down, I am repeating favorite items from earlier announcements; these items come from Week 1:

Myth Video. This video is for any fans of Doctor Who: Is Doctor Who a Religion?

India Video. And here's a video from my favorite mythologist in India, Devdutt Pattanaik: India is Not Chaotic.

India Item. This is a word from India that we now use in English: AVATAR. This Sanskrit word means a "descent" as when a god descends to earth and takes on an earthly form. This image shows the Dashavatara, the Ten-Avatars, of Vishnu, including both Rama and Krishna.

Writing. There are stories everywhere, even on your keyboard: Control and Escape.

And here's a cartoon about the power of fantasy: Role-Playing, Then and Now.

Growth Mindset Cats. New ideas lead to growth, and the growth mindset cats are excited by new ideas.

Creativity is part of a growth mindset too, so here's A Bigger Definition of Creativity.

Event in Edmond. This is not an event on campus, but I definitely wanted to include it since some of you may know Professor Barnes; she is launching her newest book, Little White Lies, tonight at Best of Books in Edmond, 6PM-7:30PM (details).

Find out more about more events at the Campus Calendar online.

November 6: Election Day. Yes, it is election day today, and I hope everybody has already voted (I voted last week!) or that you are going to vote today. There will be an Election Watch party in Headington College Senior Fellow Lounge tonight from 7PM-9PM (details):
