HAPPY WEEKEND! Today is Saturday of Week 4. Here is a link to the Week 4 assignments and also Week 5 if you are ready to go go go.

Class Procedures and Reminders

OU IT outages: Sunday. This is a heads-up about a planned OU IT outage on Sunday, starting at probably around 9PM and lasting until Monday morning. I would urge everybody to bookmark this announcements page because you might not be able to access Canvas during the IT outage. You'll be able to do all the work for class, but you might not be able to record your Canvas Declarations until Monday. Don't worry: we'll get it all sorted out!

Project Stack. On Friday I replied to all the projects turned in before Thursday; if you turned something in on Thursday or Friday, you'll be at the top of the stack on Monday. I'll update the stack periodically over the weekend so you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. The sooner you turn in the assignment, the sooner you will get comments back from me next week.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I shared the stubborn salmon yesterday, and here's another image just for fun; this one is from Madison's blog. It's positively apocalyptic! For more cats, see today's audiobook below.

Free Book Online. Today's free book is The Life of a Text: Performing the Ramcaritmanas of Tulsidas by Philip Lutgendorf. The book was published in 1991, and it's available free online thanks to the UC Press.

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is The Book of Cats: A Chit-chat Chronicle of Feline Facts and Fancies, Legendary, Lyrical, Medical, Mirthful and Miscellaneous by Charles H. Ross.

Featured Storybook. Here's a Storybook all about karma: Karma's Courthouse. Gods and humans alike come before the judgment of Karma in an eerie, otherworldly courtroom. What judgment will Karma pass on Rama, Sita, Maya, and Indra? Are any of the defendants strong enough to challenge Karma's ruling?

India Video. Here's another Epified video: Ganga - The Goddess and the River.

Myth Video. And here's another Crash Course video: Herakles. Or Hercules. A Problematic Hero.

Myth Item. This is a proverb about Hercules's dad, Jupiter: Jupiter's Thunderbolts. If Jupiter hurled his thunderbolt as often as men sinned, he would soon be out of thunderbolts.

Writing. For the punctuation humor files: Celebrity Commas.

And here are some lovely weekend thoughts from Grant Snider: Today I will do nothing.

And OK Go wants you to ponder the moment: The One Moment.

Growth Mindset Cats. The cat is always curious: To learn, start by asking a question.

Event on Campus. Come enjoy some tabletop role-playing game, including Dungeons and Dragons and more; beginners welcome. It's happening in the Headington Residential College classroom from 3PM - 8PM (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 9: Paul Laurence Dunbar. Today marks the death in the year 1906 of the great African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. Dunbar was born a free man in Ohio in the year 1872; both of his parents had been slaves. You can read more about his life at Wikipedia, and you can find his poetry at the Lit2Go. I've also included a short video from the Paul Laurence Dunbar House, which is now a historic site in Dayton, Ohio.
