Sunday, February 10

Today is Sunday of Week 4, so that means it is the day to finish up the Week 4 assignments and, if you have time, you can get started on the Week 5 assignments now too.

Class Procedures and Reminders

OU IT outage postponed. Yesterday I had announced some scheduled IT maintenance that was going to take Canvas offline tonight, but when I checked Alerts.ou.edu, I learned that the maintenance has been postponed. So, no Canvas worries tonight after all!

Project List. The projects are up and running now, so that means I've started a project list for each class: Myth-Folklore and Indian Epics. There will be a lot more websites to add to those lists on Monday, and congratulations to all of you for your new websites!

Project Stack. I'll try to check my email periodically today, so you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. The sooner you turn in that assignment, the sooner you'll get comments back from me.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Here's a positive-thinking cat meme from Bianca's blog: Subtract a Negative, Add a Positive.

Free Book Online. Today's free book is Folklore of the Holy Land: Moslem, Christian and Jewish by J. E. Hanauer. Some of you in Myth-Folklore may be reading stories from this book next week!

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is The Arabian Nights by Andrew Lang, which is another one of the reading options next week in Myth-Folklore.

Featured Storybook. This project from last semester is a great example of interactive storytelling: Dungeons and Decisions. Everybody is getting together for a game of Dungeons and Dragons, including you. Roll the dice and see what fate awaits you in the land of Inuit myth and legend.

It's built with (free) Twine storytelling software.

Myth Video. Before we leave the Bible weeks behind in the Myth-Folklore class, I thought you might enjoy this talk by OU professor Nina Livesey: Current Conversations: Historical Jesus.

India Video. Here's another TED talk by my favorite mythologist, Devdutt Pattanaik: Not Quite Avatar. You can follow Devdutt at Twitter!

India Item. Another Indian account I follow at Twitter is Wonderful Indian Architecture; here's a tweet of the Chennakeshava Temple in Karnataka:

Writing. This is a fun tool for monitoring your word count, with more kittens the more you write: Written? Kitten! (you can choose from other cute animals too).

And since we all procrastinate, here's a Field Guide to Procrastinators. I'm guessing everybody can relate to at least one of these types. Me? I'm an "Internet Researcher" ... to dangerous extremes. :-)

Growth Mindset Cats. Curiosity is a force that cannot be denied: Curiosity breeds curiosity.

Yes, it's an ad for Android... but it's also an adorable video: Friends FureverBe together. Not the same.

Event on Campus. Check out the new exhibit at the Sam Noble Museum, Winged Tapestries: Moths at Large. The Museum is open from 1PM-5PM on Sundays, and admission is free for OU students.

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

February 10: Vasant Panchami. Today is the 2019 celebration of the holiday of Vasant Panchami in honor of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, art, and music. You can find out more about the holiday at Wikipedia, and the image below shows the goddess Saraswati. There will be lots of beautiful Saraswati images if you check the #VasantPanchami hashtag at Twitter today!
