Class Procedures and Reminders
Progress Meter. Now that we are into the final stretch of the semester, I've added a "gas gauge" progress meter, counting down the days until May 3, in the blog sidebar. Here's where we are now:
Project Stack. On Friday, I read and replied to all the Week 9 assignments in the stack, leaving some Week 10 and Week 11 assignments that will be at the top of the stack for Monday. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.
The following items are for fun and exploration:
Blog Stream. I thought this item from Hunter's blog would be a good graphic to share... and for fighting fear, check out the growth mindset cat below too!
Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is Folklore of the Santal Parganas by Cecil Henry Bompas.
Featured Storybook. This is a project that connects up with the Native American weeks in Myth-Folklore: Monsters of the Native Americans. These are bedtime stories... but dark ones, stories of the mythical monsters of three different Native peoples.
India Video. Here is some beautiful music from Maati Baani for the weekend: Tore Matware Naina.
India Item. Here is a word that comes to English from India: SWASTIKA. It was grotesquely misappropriated by the Nazi movement, but the swastika has been and continues to be a sign of prosperity, su-astika, throughout India.
Writing. Of course I hope you will have many good writing days!
And if you find yourself in a negative space, here are some tips for managing negative thoughts.
Growth Mindset Cats. Don't let fear stop you: just keep going.
And here are some philosophical thoughts about the power of wonder.
Event on campus. Today is the Spring Powwow at Lloyd Noble Center, starting with Gourd Dancing at 1PM and events all day leading up to the Grand Entry at 6PM (details).
March 30: Maxfield Parrish. Today marks the anniversary of the death of the American illustrator, Maxfield Parrish, who was born in 1870 and lived a very long life indeed; he died in 1966. You can read about Parrish's life and career in this Wikipedia article, and the Art Passions website has an extensive gallery of his work. See the link above for his illustrations to the Arabian Nights, and here is an illustration for Puss in Boots:
