Sunday, March 31

Happy Weekend! Today is Sunday of Week 10. If you haven't finished with Week 10, today is the day to do that: Week 10 assignments. And if you're ready to just keep on going, here's a link to Week 11.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Famous Last Words. If you've been to a special event that you want to write up for extra credit, that's something you can do with a Famous Last Words post! Did anybody go to the Spring Powwow yesterday for example? Perfect for a Famous Last Words post!

Project Stack. I'll update the stack periodically today so that you can check the stack to make sure I received your email, and on Monday I'll start replying to the assignments in order (starting with the items from Thursday and Friday of last week).

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Project Stream. Daana did a really cool learning challenge, looking for "empathy in a story" (Krishna and the bull Hastin), and here's the graphic she used:

Free Book Online. Today's free book is Tales of Troy and Greece by Andrew Lang. It's Andrew Lang's birthday today! See more below.

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is also by Andrew Lang: The Lilac Fairy Book.

Featured Storybook. Diwali is one of the holidays included in this Storybook, along with Rama Navami (coming up in April!), Hanuman Jayanti, and Krishna Jayanti: Epic Festivals of India.

India Video. Here's a video about the connection between the Ramayana and the festival of Diwali: Rama and Sita Defeat Ravana.

Myth Video. This is a Native American trickster tale: Coyote by Gerald Mc Dermott.

Myth Item. I illustrated this Estonian proverb with a photo of one of the famous dwarves of Wroclaw: The one who is not strong enough to lift the stone must roll it.

Writing. This is one of my favorite writing graphics: Don't give up in the middle.

And whatever you do, don't fall into the list trap.

Growth Mindset Cats. When you refuse to give up, you will grow: you must persist despite setbacks.

And here's a lovely film to reflect on for a Sunday: GRATITUDE by Louie Schwartzberg, featuring the thoughts of David Steindl-Rast.

Event on Campus.  At 2PM in the Sharp Concert Hall the OU School of Music presents an Accademia Filarmonica Concert featuring Gregory Lee, violin, Richard Zielinski and the OU Chorale performing Handel and Vivaldi (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

March 31. Today marks the birthday of Andrew Lang, one of the major folklorists of the 19th century; he was born on this day in 1844. This portrait of Lang dates to 1888:
