HAPPY FRIDAY! You have finished the first part of Week 13! Here is a link to the Week 13 assignments and also Week 14 for those of you working ahead in order to finish early and have a total Dead Week in this class.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Week 13 stories. After people finish up any last-minute stories this morning, I'll update the randomizer this afternoon so that there will be lots of new Week 13 stories for you to read and comment on this week.

Project Stack. Yesterday I replied to all the projects turned in on Sunday, and today I'll reply to the rest of the Week 12 assignments, plus as many of the Week 13 assignments as I can. Meanwhile, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I thought this was a cool Wikipedia Trail that Joshua L. did: from the goddess Frigg to, yes, Hitler... by way of Super Rabbit!

Free Book Online. Today's free book is Tales of the Punjab by Flora Annie Steel, with illustrations are by J. Lockwood Kipling (yes, Rudyard Kipling's father!).

Free Audiobook. Today's free audiobook is Egyptian Tales by W. M. Flinders Petrie.

Featured Storybook. This Aladdin Storybook is a fun example of flipped characters: Aladdin's Adventures. You know all about Aladdin, but not this version of the story: this time Aladdin is the wealthy and powerful prince, and his beloved is a young woman without money but with the wit and intelligence they will need to survive all the palace intrigue!

India Video. This video is about the avatars of Lord Vishnu, the Dashavatar. One of them, Rama, is the hero of the Ramayana, and another, Krishna, is a hero of the Mahabharata.

Myth Video. Speaking of monsters, here's a thought-provoking video: The Paradox of Horror.

India Item. This is a fact sheet about Vayu, the Wind God who was the father of Hanuman in the Ramayana, and who will be the father of Bhima in the Mahabharata.

Myth Item. Legos can be for telling stories, as in the The Brick Testament.... including the Garden of Eden of course:

Writing. This is an astounding infographic; click to learn more: 69 Rules of Punctuation.

Storytelling. Click on the link to learn about Pixar’s 22 Rules of Storytelling. (I've transcribed the graphic there.)

Growth Mindset Cats. This cat knows learning can be social: I get support from my peers.

Here's a great video about connecting: Empathy: The Human Connection. I would especially urge those of you going into the health professions to take a look at this one!

Event on Campus. It's the Undergraduate STEM Research Bazaar in Beaird Lounge today from 10AM-12PM and then from 2PM-5PM, with coffee and breakfast during the morning session and food during the closing mixer from 4PM-5PM (details).

Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

April 19: Good Friday. In some countries this holiday is celebrated with "Hot Cross Buns" which are decorated with the sign of the cross; you can read more about this tradition at Wikipedia. One of the beliefs about Hot Cross Buns is that when you share a Hot Cross Bun with someone on Good Friday, you will enjoy friendship with them all year long if you say this charm: "Half for you and half for me / Between us two shall goodwill be."
