Saturday, September 21

Today is Saturday of Week 5... and I hope you are having a nice weekend! Here is a link to the Week 5 assignments, and also a link to the Week 6 assignments if you are ready to move on ahead.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. If you turned something in before 5PM on Thursday, you should have comments back from me now. Anything from Thursday and Friday will be at the top of the stack on Monday. Meanwhile, I'll update the stack periodically over the weekend so you can check to make sure I received your assignment.

And THANK YOU to everybody who has their project website up and running now: it is really exciting to see those take shape this semester. I'll keep updating the project lists and the project slideshow as more projects keep coming in.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. Jess included this fun graphic from the Writers Write website in a blog post; you can think about this whenever you are worried about your story's plot. :-)

Twitter Stream. I was excited to see this tweet from Grant Snider: this means more cartoons! Let this be an inspiration to follow your dreams:

Indian Epics Today. As we start the Mahabharata in Indian Epics, I'll be reviewing some of the gods who are involved in this epic, starting with the goddess Ganga, who is the mother of the hero Bhishma. More about Ganga.

Story of the Day. The origin story today is about the river Ganges: The Birth of Ganga. Here you can see the god Shiva breaking her fall as she comes crashing down from the heavens:

Storybooks. Here's a beautiful Storybook from last year: Love and Loss in Vietnam.

Indian Music Video. And in honor of International Peace Day (see below), here's a lovely video from India: Yaara | Anthem. Turn on CC to see the English subtitles:

Myth-Folklore. If you're feeling a little stressed at this time of the semester, you might enjoy these Medieval Beasts That Cannot Even Handle It Right Now.

H.E.A.R.T.. And if you're feeling stress, just remember: you are a wise and powerful wizard!

Mindset Cats. And for the weekend, mindset cat advice: get some rest!

Writing Video. And here are some thoughts on the Power to Create.

Event in OKC. The Second Annual Oklahoma Book Festival will take place at the Boathouse District in Oklahoma City from 9AM to 6PM today, featuring over 100 authors and illustrators (details).

September 21: International Day of Peace. Today is a United Nations holiday in celebration of world peace; you can find out more at Wikipedia and at the Peace Day website.
