Thursday, November 7

Today is Thursday of Week 12. Here is a link to Week 12 and also Week 13 for anybody working ahead.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Mix and match. This is just a reminder that you can mix-and-match based on the reading and writing and other assignments you like best; whatever combination you use to reach your desired goal is fine. All the modules are available in Canvas, so if you are completing an assignment from a future week, just pop open that module and you'll find all the assignments in there.

Project Stack. If you turned in a project before 7PM on Sunday, you should have comments back from me now, and I will keep working on the Sunday assignments today. Meanwhile, as always you can check the stack to make sure I received your assignment.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. It's always fun to see what people make at Cheezburger; here's a Cheezburger Tech Tip that Brianna just shared at her blog: so cute!

Twitter Stream. I know there are people interested in graphic novels in this class, so I wanted to share this upcoming event with Amruta Patil coming up on November 10: details. The 5PM India Standard Time is 5:30AM Central Time in the US, but hey, it's a Sunday. You're probably not doing anything else at 5:30AM on a Sunday. :-)

Myth-Folklore. Here's a very cool animated gif; see more animated ruin gifs.

Myth-Folklore Video. And this is another Crash Course video with Mike Rugnetta: Ma'ui, Oceania's Hero.

Indian Epics Today. Today's character is RAVANA, the ten-headed king of the rakshasas in Lanka; more about Ravana. Here you can see Ravana fighting in the Battle of Lanka:

Story of the Day. Today's "why" story is about Why the Otter Lives in Water. It's a Cherokee story, and, as usual, it's the rabbit's fault once again.

Proverbs. And here's a proverb from India about otters: It is vain to look for yesterday’s fish in the house of the otter.

H.E.A.R.T.. Yes, it's that time of the semester: ask the coffee flowchart what to do!

Mindset Video. The characters at Zootopia keep on learning, with some help from Shakira: Try everything!

Event on Campus. There will be a Kumihimo Beading Workshop from 5:30PM-7PM in Headington College Creative Commons D124 (details). All supplies provided, plus hot cocoa too!

November 7: Jan Matulka. Today marks the birthday in 1890 of Jan Matulka, the great Czech-American painter; you can read about his life and career at Wikipedia. He also did book illustrations, including Parker Fillmore's Czech fairy tale books:
