Earlier announcements. If you did not see the announcements from yesterday or earlier during the week, you can review those now: Week 1 Announcements.

IT outages today. There will be scheduled monthly maintenance on a wide range of IT systems today. Canvas should be available, but OU email may be down for part of the day. You can get the latest updates at the Alerts.ou.edu (always a good site to have bookmarked).

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Twitter Stream. I found this article about urban legends in Japan: From the “Slit-Mouthed Woman” to “Kisaragi Station”

Indian Epics Today. The character of the day today is the elephant-headed god, Ganesha, the god of beginning. More about Ganesha. Here is Ganesha with his consorts Riddhi and Siddhi.

Storybooks. In this Storybook, Ganesha is working with the gods and their vahanas, their animal vehicles: Vahana Therapy: Ganesh's Guide to Happiness.

100-Word Stories. Today's story is an Aesop's fable: The Two Donkeys (click title for more info).

Myth-Folklore Video. This video gives a quick overview of religions in time and space... and today is also World Religion Day (see below).

Words. Here's a geography word from mythology: ATLAS, a Greek Titan who eventually gave his name to books of maps. Find out more.

H.E.A.R.T.. As you ponder your day today, consider what a precious gift it is: Forget yesterday. It has already forgotten you. Don't sweat tomorrow. You haven't even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift: today.

Mindset Cats. And this growth mindset cat has advice for today and for every day: Do something creative.

Mindset Video. Speaking of creativity, here is a great video from John Spencer: We Need a Bigger Definition of Creativity.

Event on Campus. Perhaps you have a work of art you would like to show in the Women's and Gender Studies Art Gallery this semester; January 31 is the deadline for entries (details).
