Wednesday, February 26

Today is Wednesday of Week 7. Here is a link to Week 7, and I hope you are finding some good story material you can use from the reading this week to use in your own story! (It's a storytelling week again this week, and then a Review Week next week.)

Class Procedures and Reminders

Stories from Weeks 2-3-4. With the randomizer, I try to make sure every blog story gets at least two comments, but it's easy for me to miss something. Any stories you wrote back in Weeks 2, 3, or 4 should have gotten two comments by now, but if you have a story from one of those weeks that didn't get two comments, let me know, and I'll put it back in the randomizer. Also, I don't put the microfiction and biography stories in the randomizer unless you want me to do that; if you have one of those stories that you'd like me to put in the randomizer, just let me know!

Project Stack. If you turned your project in on Saturday, you should have comments back from me now, and I'll start working on the Sunday items today. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your project.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog Stream. I saw this wonderful cartoon in Brooke's blog and I knew I wanted to share it here. What a genius metaphor for getting things figured out as time goes by:

Twitter Stream. I thought this was a brilliant item at Twitter today (larger view).

Indian Epics Today. The character of the day is Kunti, wife of King Pandu and mother of the Pandava heroes Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna. More about Kunti here, and here is an Epified video:

Storybooks. Some of you in Myth-Folklore are reading Japanese stories this week, so here's a Storybook based on Japanese urban legends: Tokyo Underworld.

Myth-Folklore Video. And here's a video about a famous animal from Japanese folklore, the tanuki, or raccoon-dog.

Proverbs. Plus, a proverb from JapanSomeone who stands behind a wall can see nothing else.

100-Word Stories. Today's story is one of the stories told about Ganesha's vehicle, the mouse: Krauncha (click title for more info).

Writing. And as you are reading stories this week and writing your own, ponder these words from J.K. Rowling: There's always room for a story that can transport people to another place.

Mindset Cats. Today's mindset cat reminds you to keep asking questions. That's a great way to come up with your own story; just ask yourself, "What if...?"

HEART Video. Plus some advice from Alan Alda about empathy and perception: Grow Your Empathy Through Better Visual Perception.

Event near Campus. Come learn about 3D printing in Bizzell's EDGE today, Room 126, 2PM-3PM (details).

February 26: Johnny Cash. Today marks the birthday of the immortal Johnny Cash (even if he did depart this earth in 2003). You can read more about his life and career in this Wikipedia article. Here's a YouTube video of a 1959 performance of Folsom Prison Blues, a song which also has its own Wikipedia article too.

Check out the Twitter stream for information and fun stuff during the day, or click here for past announcements.
