Friday, November 20

Yes, you made it to another FRIDAY. It is the end of Week 13. For those of you are working ahead to finish up, here's a link to Week 14, plus a link to Week 15 too. That's all available now, and you can mix-and-match any assignments you want as you work your way towards the end of the class.

Class Procedures and Reminders

Thanksgiving break. The break is finally here! In this class, you have the full week off, so that means you can wrap up the Week 13 end-of-week work this weekend as usual, or you can do that during next week, or wait until the weekend the weekend after Thanksgiving, based on whatever is most convenient for you. Then, after the break, there will be the usual grace period on Monday morning, November 30.

Finishing early! Given how weird the final two weeks of the semester will be, plus the usual stress of finals, I hope that you will try to take advantage of the option to finish up this class in Week 13. That way you can have more time to focus on your other classes at the end of the semester and preparing for finals. More about that here. When you are done, you can let me know by filling out the Finished form you'll see there in the Canvas menu.

Project Stack. Yesterday I replied to all the projects turned in before 11PM on Sunday, today I'll do my best to get through everything in the stack. As always, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Blog stream. I'm always excited when I see someone do a microfiction, and here's one from Saad inspired by a traditional Indian folktale: Satyabrata's Pleasure. Yes, it involves a goose:

Twitter stream. Something beautiful from Roman Archaeology News:

And something beautiful from India: Panchmukhi (Five-Faced) Shiva.

Plus a gorgeous Noah's Ark:

Storybook. And for those of you who've been reading Alice stories this week in Myth-Folklore, here's an Alice Storybook: It's All in Your Head, Alice.

100-Word Stories. In honor of Saad's goose I had to include the famous Aesop's fable here: The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs.

And speaking of Noah, a Crash Course video on Flood Legends of the Americas:

If you're feeling short of time, you can probably connect with this Awkward Yeti cartoon (larger version):

And if you're wondering why I don't use Zoom, to me Zoom feels like being on-stage, and I prefer being off-stage, like in this new Grant Snider cartoon (larger version):

And some music for the weekend: Heal The World - Child Prodigy cover produced by Maati Baani:

October 24: Chhath Puja. Today is the Chhath Puja festival in honor of Surya, the sun god. You can read more about this festival at Wikipedia, and you can follow the Chhath stream at Twitter.
