Spring 2014 Semester Ready to Go

School does not start officially until Monday, January 13, but if you would like to start this online class early, it is ready to go! All the first week assignments are available now if you want to get a head start. Even though there are no class meetings for this online course, you do have assignments that are DUE already next week on January 14 - so if you can complete those assignments before the deadline, that will give you one less thing to worry about when your regular classroom-based classes get started next week.

Getting Started:

All the information you need about the Week 1 assignments can be found at the course website, and you can also find these course website links inside the course webspace at Desire2Learn:
Just click on the Week 1 Orientation link at your course website, and you'll find what you need to get started. Those of you who are back again after doing one of these courses in Fall will want to check out this page of notes for returning students. In addition to the first week assignments for both classes, the assignments for the rest of the semester are basically ready to go as well. So, if you want, you really can get a big head start on the semester!

As always, there are LOTS of little things I have to adjust at the beginning of each new semester, and I am very grateful for the folks who start early and help make sure everything really is ready to go. So, if you have questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to contact me at laura-gibbs@ou.edu.

Other Announcements:

Books: For Myth-Folklore, the readings are online at the Myth-Folklore course website, so no books to buy. For Indian Epics, there are four paperback books you need to acquire: books for Indian Epics.

Former students: For those of you who subscribed to these announcements by email, you can easily unsubscribe yourselves; each email contains an "unsubscribe" link in the bottom of the email. If you prefer, just send me a note and I'll unsubscribe you manually! Or, you might want to stay subscribed: if you were too busy to grab all the free ebooks, for example, or explore the resources last semester, maybe you will want to explore them this semester. Plus, I've got some fun new stuff coming, like the words that come to English from India and also English words from Greek mythology. Fun stuff, I promise - I am really excited about trying out some new things this spring!

And for your viewing pleasure, here's a video from Mister Rogers to begin the new year: it's too cold for outdoor gardening right now... but you can grow things in the garden of your mind all year long! :-)
