Tuesday, September 19

Today is Tuesday of WEEK 5, and I've re-arranged the Modules area in Canvas so the new week is on top. The first reading of the week is due today; I hope you will find some good storytelling ideas! Here is a link to this week's assignments.

Update: If you have trouble accessing the class wiki, remember that you can go straight to the Myth-Folklore reading or the Indian Epics reading. It's a good idea to keep those sites bookmarked since you will be using them all semester. :-)

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. I read and replied to all the projects people turned in on Friday, and I'll start working on the Saturday assignments today. While you are waiting on comments back from me about your Project assignment, you can check the stack to make sure I received your email. Thanks again to everybody for all the new websites!

Week 5 Comments and Feedback. I got both of these assignments up and running! That is how both assignments will work for the rest of the semester: I will get them ready to go at some time during the day on Monday each week so that they are ready by Tuesday. I hope you will have fun visiting other people's projects, in addition to visiting the blogs.

Extra Credit. Every week there's also an extra credit commenting assignment, so if you like looking at the different kinds of posts in people's blogs, this is a fun extra credit option. Find out more about all the extra credit options in this week's assignments.

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, I saw a cartoon by one of my favorite cartoonists, Grant Snider.

Spelling. This is one of those spelling errors that is usually caused by the spellchecker itself: DEFIANTLY v. DEFINITELY.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: My Brothers Grimm: The Diary of the Only Grimm Sister. You've never heard of Charlotte Grimm, but without her help, the Brothers Grimm would never have survived to write their famous collection of fairy tales.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is Hindu Fairy Tales by Florence Griswold. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. The illustrations are by Helen Jacobs.

Story of the Day. Today's story is an Indian folktale: Singh Rajah and the Cunning Little Jackals. Singh Rajah is the Lion-King!

Video: The video for today is for the "T" (time) element of the H.E.A.R.T. blog: OK Go's The One Moment. Find out more about the making of this remarkable video here: OK Go's New Video.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is ready to reflect: Feedback is helpful; don't fear it. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Juan Gabaldon will be giving a talk on Caribbean Musical Expression in Mexico at noon in 229 Kaufman Hall (details). Find out more about this and other events at the Campus Calendar online.

September 19: Arthur Rackham. Today is the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great illustrator Arthur Rackham, who was born in 1867 (he died in 1939). You can read more about his life and career in this Wikipedia article, and you are probably familiar already with some of Rackham's illustrations, like his famous illustrations for Alice in Wonderland.
