Saturday, October 7

Today is Saturday of Week 7. I hope you are looking forward to a nice weekend!

Class Procedures and Reminders

Project Stack. Yesterday, I got through most of the projects in the stack, and the ones remaining will be at the top on Monday. If you want comments back sooner rather than later next week, turn in your project today; don't wait until Sunday. Over the weekend, I'll periodically update the stack so you can make sure I received your email.

Extra Credit. If you have some time today, doing the reading extra credit option is a way to explore some new stories and/or catch up on reading you missed last week. Find out more in the extra credit section of this week's assignments.

Review Week. Next week, Week 8, is a Review Week, which means there is no new reading in Week 8. Instead, there are some review-and-reflect activities, and I hope you will have fun with this change of pace for the middle of the semester!

The following items are for fun and exploration:

Class Twitter. From yesterday's Twitter @OnlineMythIndia, here are some OU education students. You'll find Cassidy from Myth-Folklore is one of the students featured there!

English Spelling. Here's another one of those words pairs where the spellchecker is no help: PEAK v. PEEK.

Storybook Archive. This project is from the Myth-Folklore class: The Diaries of Four Courageous Women. In this Storybook, the diaries of four courageous women — Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, Zenobia, and Lady Godiva — speak for themselves.

Free Book Online: Today's free book is The Song Celestial; Or, Bhagavad-Gita by Edwin Arnold. See the Freebookapalooza blog for links and the table of contents. This is the first version of the Gita which Gandhi read.

Story of the Day. Today's story is from Aesop's fables: The Sick Kite and his Mother. This is a story of death-bed repentance.

Video: The video for today is Girish's song inspired by a Sanskrit mantra: Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu, "may all the worlds be happy." Find out more at Wikipedia.

Growth Mindset: Today's growth mindset cat is growing in different ways: I think. I design. I create. I invent. I reflect. I learn. You can find out more at the Growth Mindset blog.

Event on Campus: Bizzell is open from 9AM to 9PM on Saturdays, and for your viewing pleasure, here is the Library Ghost video with Jeff Provine.

October 4-11: Sukkot. Today is part of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. This festival is usually known as "Feast of the Booths" or "Feast of the Tabernacles" in English. During the festival, people build special huts in which to celebrate the holiday. You can read more about the Festival of Sukkot at Wikipedia, which is also the source for the image of a festival booth below:
